Want To Learn Php.

Discussion in 'PHP' started by albag999, Sep 6, 2008.

I have decided that I want to start learning PHP. I already have a book on HTML and CSS which I am reading at the moment and is really good.

The book is called HTML and CSS in 24 Hours.

Is there any ebooks or just normal books that will teach a beginner on PHP.

To begin with, do you have a reason to learn PHP, any idea or plan that you wish to execute? In case none, I suggest first to set a goal.
Next to run php - unlike html + css which any browser can render, you need application server like apache (xampp or wamp are excellent for on your machine testing) or go for free web hosting services like pubwebhost.com (Offers free web hosting with PHP% & MySQL database)

Next visit webmonkey.com for nice tutorials, or php.net itself has loads of examples in manual section!

    Good Luck to you!!

Only if they intend on putting more code after phpinfo(). However, I would mention a bigger problem would be your PHP tags:
    <?php ?>
    Code (markup):
    NOT
If you need more help, you can follow my tutorials starting with the PHP - Introduction.

    lol. These topics are hilarious.

So, you are just learning HTML, and now CSS and you want to stretch to PHP? Well yes, you need to know HTML first and CSS could come in handy, but learning both of them for the sake of PHP really isn't the best thing to do. You should take time learning each one of the languages and don't just learn the language, use it. Create Web templates, etc.

If you just learn one language then move onto CSS to move onto PHP you will find yourself struggling to learn PHP as everything takes time with patience. You need to constantly use each language otherwise you'll be forgetting the important parts of each language that is fundementally reliant on the other. For instance, to style Web pages you need to know CSS and CSS is reliant on HTML, as CSS can't do the "building blocks" of Web pages, only style.

What I'd suggest for you, and everyone else that makes such threads is stop completely. These books that say "HTML & CSS in 24 hours" are simply unpractical, it takes longer than this to learn the concept of code and then be able to use it.

Forget about PHP completely for at least 3 months and create interesting Web templates, etc., maybe create some open source templates and submit them as open source Web design, to sites such as oswd.org.

PHP isn't just about creating blog applications, etc., PHP is capable of a lot more including interacting with filesystems (like changing file names, copying and deleting files and changing CHMOD permissions).

Stress is the key thing you'll suffer from if you keep up to this *must learn html, css then php*
