The official site for it. Just search for whatever you are trying to do and you'll usually see several example snippets posted by other people

I'd recommend Practical PHP Programming.

It's more of a book than a simple tutorial site, which is good for beginners. You're able to follow the book in a nice progression through learning the language rather than piecing together random tutorial bits.

It's also a free book, which makes it better than all of the books you'll find at Barnes and Noble...

As for php.net, don't use that to learn php. It's a great reference source, but it's kind of like using a dictionary to learn the English language. It's a resource to look things up - not to learn fresh.
