I really don't know how should I start learning PHP. I have even no background of any server details. At present I am learning CSS . So friends, can you tell me

    1) what are pre-requisites
    2) how to start learning (good books name, perfect site etc)

    thanks a lot

for starters the PHP for Dummies book is great to learn the structure, then after that php.net is another good site which has a fair amount of juicy code. If all else fails, a friendly well worded question here on DP could even land you a couple of example code blocks to help out.
It takes time, but PHP is one of those code bases which is quite fun =)

As Marko said, frist learn HTML, then HTML + CSS, and then when you are sure that you know what are you doing when you writing HTML, then start to learn PHP, because PHP is implementation into HTML. So you will never no enough PHP if you dont know well HTML.

    Just keep going :)

Don't bother with any 'for dummies' books. They are a waste of time and money.

Pick up 'teach yourself php in 24 hours' by SAMS Publishing. You should be able to find a cheap used copy on amazon.com

I can not be online just for learning the php. Instead, there seems to be two directions for me.
Go and read the php related websites
    or
buy books and start doing the things.
    So what should I do.

If book then which books should I refer as basic
