I am interested in learning PHP but I am not sure where to start yet. Could anyone pitch out some ideas on where they started?
Do you know HTML and CSS? Knowing these basic make up languages makes it easier to learn. Myself, I learned it here: http://tizag.com/ and http://w3schools.com/
You might buy a PHP book or 2 to have handy for reference. Though I found it hard to read and understand them until I gained some basic understanding of PHP. For me I started making small changes to an Amazon affiliate script. When you are making a few dollars as you learn it always helps! Once you learn a few basic PHP terms you can find a lot of simple examples on the web. One of the sites I have found very helpful is http://www.tizag.com .
Call me old fashioned but I still think the manual at php.net/manual/en/ (sorry, DP doesn't let me post live links yet ) is the best resource You'll use the function lookup there a lot.
Yes, read the user comments in the PHP Manual. Very useful tips there! Also, download a few basic scripts and see how they work eg. counters, date and time, and calenders. Hot Scripts - PHP Scripts
http://www.phpfreaks.com is an excellent source to learn PHP from and there forums are really helpful.
Another website I like is http://www.talkphp.com/, they have a good range of articles there and a good cummunity behind it.
