My site receives hits but I receive s**ts

    Hallo!

I am a newbie in all this webmastering stuff but I must admit I enjoy it and I am a hard-working animal :)
I have a jokes website and of course I display Adsense ads. At last I have reached decent traffic (in MSN with certain keywords I am within the top10 results) but I still do not earn ANY money. My Adsense stats shows approx 300 - 500 page impresions a day but ctr is a round 0 :(
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks, ;)

Your type of sites tend to generate very low earnings with adsense. How about trying popups or banners instead?

I checked out your site. Your Adsense banner placement is not optimal. Try experimenting with different layouts, and move the ad placement to somewhere with more focus. Maybe right below the joke text or something.

Also, create unique titles for each page when you can. It looked like your page title never changes no matter where I was at on the site. A relevent title helps show more relevent ads to whatever that page is about.

    Good luck!

yeah joke sites should be impression ads or something else. people tend to click to the new picture or joke quickly so you don't get a lot of people looking at ads.

i haven't put ads on my joke site yet, but when it gets enough traffic, i'll look at options. I don't think adsense is one of them.

few hundred impression is still not enough for you to make money from adsense. Work more on your traffic and the money will come later.

The position of your ads is not the best one. Read a few of these threads for a start of how to get better CTR

This one shows that your ad is positioned at the last place where people look in a webpage.

The rest of these help with blending etc.

Yeah it is really hard to get any feel for revenue with low impression numbers. On sites that i have with low impressions earnings can fluctuate huge from day to day. You can have zero for several days in a row and then get several dollars the next day.. It only balances out in the long run.

I second the advice to work on building traffic. Hard to make definitive improvements with such small amounts of data.

However, I would also listen to the advice of those who looked at your site and recommend better ad placement. :)

    Jadder,

Try placing little funny pictures on your site with adsense ads next to or above the pictures, this'll 'trick' the user into thinking that it's a funny joke to read but in actuality it is an adsense ad.

    goodluck

as long as you put visible border between the ads and images, it is legal. But trick your visitors to click and ads won't do you any good in the long term because when advertiser realize that conversion rate from your site is low, they'll might filter out your site our lower their bid for that keyword. But, its still worth a try...good luck!
