DP birthdays no more?

The 'today's birthdays' is no longer on the forums homepage beside the 'newest member' link.

I used to enjoy seeing how many DPers had a birthday on the same day. Will it make a return?

I think Shawn took that away because there were to many "happy b'day" threads.
Anyway, you can browser the member list and check all the members' profiles. You'll know their b'day's. :D

Thanks for the link Richie :)

I was wondering why there is no visible member list, at least I have never seen it before your post.

Hmm... I never thought that Shawn removed that. Anyway, do you think we will get an infraction if we start a "Birthday" thread?? :D

Oh come on......don't take away the DP spirit .....

Its THE MEMBERS that make this place remember......:)

Don't become one of those corporate dudes ....You know how when company's/ people get big....they start getting more anal.....

I think that was a nice feature,...

I mean shit - The Politics forum is still going...... ands that is 100% crap

So Having birthdays is all for the members......and its a nice way to express feelings in a positive manner

Lord knows we have enough negative Threads.....Lets bring back the birthdays ......

Apart of congratulating people, you were able to see people's age finding the whole range of DP's audience.

Besides, people will continue with happy birthday threads if they know a member's birthday.

Nintendo's was not listed and you saw...

Yeah, but with 63,000 members and 365 days in the year it's likely that there'll be 173 birthdays on any particular day. That's a lot of names at the bottom of the page - too many for anyone to take any notice!

It was over a month ago that it was taken off...yet for some crazy reason, some one remembered da wackos birthday!!! *gags* Probably too much 'pad my post count' stuff. :D
Look at da 'Post 100, 200, 500, 1000...' threads. Notice a lot of them end up with da [IMG] button!!! :D Da thread starters don't know how to keep it from being just a pad your post count thread and geting da locked image. :D *hint* Make da thread unique, like this or this to keep da threads from being locked.

'Happy birthday XXX' and 'Congratulations on 100 posts XXX' is just as close to SPAM/PMPC as da 'PM sent' posts!!

Happy birthday is like Merry xmas etc

I mean it was just really members that new other members starting the threads, it wasnt like theres were 200 threads a day on the happy b day thing...

I am starting to wonder if " Happy holidays, merry xmas , etc , is going to get banned as well.

And by the way - whats closer to "pm sent" threads are things like EGS's famous

" did you ever shit you pants" thread......so really I don't think 3 happy birthday threads a week are that bad considering the rest of the shit in general chat...

I know there will be many to argue...but " Happy Birthday {member_name} is just a bit more personal then a "pm sent"....

Anyhow this is "suggestions & feedback" still right?..

And it does say that we don't silence our members, so I figured I would rant...

    Just my opinion..thats all

    Oh Ps.......SIDE NOTE:

Will Shawn be disconnecting the default email you get from the server as part of the VB system by default for your Birthday email?

More to so with all the useless "happy birthday" threads and there just being too many birthdays on a single day. Was adding to clutter to the main page. The thing that shows who's online was under consideration for being dropped (just seems like useless clutter to me), but it's staying for now.

That's the part that takes up a ton of space!!! Maybe take off the massive list of member names, but keep the

Thanks for the replies. I guess you're right, most of the time, Happy Birthday threads are spammy, that's what PMs are for. I suppose if members are cool enough, we should know when their birthday is and take it to their individual blog.

    :)

If you do drop it in future Shawn, would it be possible to change it to those on your buddy list online?
