Sub-domain or Sub-directory? Which one should you choose?

    Hello,

If you want to install another blog (same niche) on your primary domain then which one do you prefer? A sub-domain or a sub-directory (folder) and WHY?

How does that differ in SEO terms?

I prefer sub-directory. Is it really better than sub-domain I don't know, but Google for their tools use sub-directory, so, I am looking to do SEO like Google does.

How are these domains related? Placing multiple blogs on either sub-domains or add-domains will result in all having the same IP. If you intend using these sites as connected sites in a network then search engines may consider them as part of a link farm sharing the same IP and react accordingly, possibly resulting in site bans and de-indexing.

    Hello,

My primary blog is Internet Marketing related... and I dont accept guest posts or hire writers for that... I want to start another blog so as to hire writers... So want to use the same branding and theme etc. So that while I write posts on my primary domain I can link to those articles done by my writers if its related.... Because I cant handle all the writing by myself... And at the same time I dont want someone else to blog as ghost writer or hire a paid writer....

Supposedly Google treats a subdomain like a completely separate domain, so if you want to use the ranking power of the main domain to boost the new site, a subdirectory is better. The main reason to use a new domain would be if you were concerned about the new site having spam or thin or duplicate content (if it's a forum, for example). If the subdomain has thin content, any panda-related penalty should only hurt the subdomain and not impact the rest of the site.

Yep Creating Sub Directory is more feasible than Sub Domain.
