Really? So, you know this guy? I mean, you looked into this? Close friends are you? As I write this, he has made 90 posts in all. In 2004, he made 2 posts, promoting one of his products: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=491 Since then, the rest of his posts have been: 16 on this thread, dropping links all over the place and drawing attention to his new product under false pretenses. He wants you to think that it's a big deal that Squidoo outranks him for a very low competition phrase that no one cares about, totally not addressing the fact that so does everyone else. 4 trying to push this same product (not under BST mind you) http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=339918 2 again trying to sell this product (this one under BST) http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=339910 1 where he is self promoting (although he didn't start that thread) http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=313944 3 promoting a free tool he created http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=275876 11 promoting more of his tools http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=274313 49 on trying to get someone banned, whom jonathan claimed was stealing his product. Now, thing is with these 49, on the "No press is bad press" line of thinking, we have no way of knowing whether or not jonathan paid someone to "steal" his product, in order to draw lots of attention to it, now do we?. Either way, the posts weren't contributing, they were just self serving, and I'm sure the attention didn't hurt him. Which leaves exactly 2 posts not promoting himself: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=3288258 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=3288247 So, jabb, still sticking up for this guy? Think he's a stand up sort of fellow? Not the spamming self serving screw the rules kind of guy you want as your best bud? -Michael
Screw that, I'd rather hang out on DP. Btw, I'm not wasting that much time, could be worse. At least I'm not hanging out in P&R these days. -Michael
Wow Michael. You've got a lot of time on your hands. Wish I had enough time to do that kind of evaluation, but I'm afraid I'm too busy being productive... I have to say, though, that I'm a bit bummed that you consider 11 posts on the thread where I'm giving away free tools to give back to this community as self promotion. I guess the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is just a front for promoting Microsoft, too -- it just happens to save thousands of lives. Oh, well, c'est la web. Have fun hanging out! J. Leger
Dude, whatever. It's not like I spent hours digging through useful posts to find the self promoting ones... I skimmed the list of "Find all posts by" and could see straight away that the vast majority were gimmicks and sales. Took about 6 minutes to add em up. Btw, if being "productive" entails nothing more than spending time on trying to figure out how to scam people out of their money and working on slimy promotional tactics, screwing up my karma, I'd rather be a happy slacker. -Michael
Strong words Michael. Care to back them up with some facts? I've got thousands of happy customers who can speak for me (a couple have already posted to this thread). What do you have? I can post dozens of testimonials here about my latest product -- which you say I am selling by "scaming people out of their money" -- but then I'm sure you would call that "slimy" self promotion as well, wouldn't you? In fact, I honestly don't think anything I would do would satisfy your strange need to attack me and this thread (which I started because of some interesting facts I noticed about how well Squidoo lenses rank). All that said, I'm going to stop wasting my time (and the time of everyone who has to scan past this nonsense) and stop posting to this thread. So farewell! See you on another thread (where you will probably be attacking me as well). J. Leger
Its up to the mods to decide that, as you say all of his posts are spam yet he hasn't been banned since 2004, so you said he was violating DP's rules, what rules is he violating? Sure he does promotion, but as you have seen from this thread there are happy customers from here so obviously what he is promoting has benefited people here, whats the big deal?
I would - I purchased Adsense Gold the support was crap (2 weeks of being ignored whilst you spammed me with how to apply customer satisfaction, ha), you never sent me a refund and wasted two weeks of my time. What was it "100% money back satisfaction guarantee" not worth the paper it’s written on. Spammer
He made 2 posts in 2004, and I already explained how he was violating. I'm not a mod, and cannot ban him, but that does not mean that I enjoy having places where I hang out at spammed. a) Unhappy ones as well. b) If he was a strong member who had useful advice, taught people things, was friendly, and actually contributed to this forum, it wouldn't be a big deal at all. Guys like these: Both non-spamming contributing members to this forum. And what would you call you posting dozens of testimonials of your own product? Are you brain damaged? The mere fact of making the claim that you could post them is in fact self promotion. See ya. -Michael
Actually you didn't show the rule he was breaking, i just took a look at the rules and couldn't see one. Since the mods have never decided to ban him, i assume he isn't.
I haven't written much on how to directly make a Squidoo lens popular, but all the old lessons still apply: content is king being one of them. Check out www.squidoo.com/why and www.squidoo.com/what for how to get started.
yes I do agree, you can rank very fast with the help of squidoo lenses, squidoo comments, these can provide fast crawls. but too much comments can take it to spam, if it is used properly then it helps a lot. doing spam with squidoo is in your hand, if you're doing 150-200 comments a day then it will be counted as spam and squidoo will block your post. but if you do 70-80 then it is ok.
Hello Jonathan you are right but it has been like that for about 18 months just before that Squidoo bombed in Google but came back harder and faster. And yes someone else said it depends on your niche and keywords as well plus you do not know how many links are in the network the Squidoo lens is part of. Most sharp marketers use Squidoo as part of a whole network of blogs, webpages and money sites. I have seen some awesome flowcharts from at least a dozen super affiliates and Squidoo is a central part of the whole network. On the down side Squidoo hates Marketing blogs. Now before a lot of you start disagreeing- I had 8 lens's that had affiliate Product offers on them. Last year Squidoo blocked my Hoodia site saying they did not approve pharmacy? products? Hoodia is a natural supplement. I worked on it and resubmitted it and they accepted it. 6 Months later they blocked it again- because they changed their terms. I was not allowed it and had to delete it. Then this year Squidoo changed their TOS again and they blocked all my sites bar 2. All my lens's had to be deleted. I had an Adwords product, I had a relationship product on there, and other affiliate products same as I have on blogspot like a dogtraining product etc... All had good original content on them, not spammy rubbish, I am an expert Author on Ezinearticles and I enjoy writing good content at around 750 words. Basically If someone does not like your site because they are precious about keeping Squidoo Pristine and not want anyone selling on there, they get the network group they are members of to complain and Squidoo will block your affiliate site. Remember my 8 lens's were 2 years old and central to my networks that generated huge link juice. I lost a lot. The only Lens's Squidoo let me keep was one site were I uncovered a real scam and offered a genuine alternative to go to on another link. I have never made a sale from that lens. So I will change the link. I am just going to use it as link juice to my Adsense blog. The other one is a Music blog about Jimi Hendrix and Muddy waters, it has Videos of Hendrix playing at Woodstock, Eric Clapton and Muddy Waters jamming and Videos of Slash Giving some free guitar licks and has a link to a Guitar course. It has Photos of Jimi Hendrix's Grave and his Memorial site etc... There are tons of people out there who still think Hendrix is God and love Woodstock, They love the Muddy Waters and Eric Clapton Video so it is no surprise they let me keep this lens. If you know Potpie Girl aka Jennifer Ledbetter. She put out a warning on her blog that this might happen- because she had a step by step; free- how to use Squidoo for marketing report out- when she got word Len's were getting blocked. Within 2 weeks she lost a couple of lens's too. Potpie girl moved the majority of her best Lens's off Squidoo and onto a hosted Wordpress platform. She did not want to risk her sales and all her content and material. I have not built a Lens since- but then I use a Wordpress (paid ) platform as well for both my blogs and static sites. Cheers Phil
PageRank depends on several things including TIME and i think google will not allow you to have good rank in short time.
