ZANGO Analytics - Methodical Approach To Increase Syndication Earnings

Almost every Zango related question I've been asked has been related to the Gateway. With the right website, you can make a ton of money using the Zango Gateway program. However you can also make lots of money using the Zango Syndication program if you are willing to put in the time to analyize the Zango reports and make changes.

I will assume the reader is knowledgable with the Zango affiliate program and how the different programs work. If you are not familiar with Zango and all their programs you can view these other posts to get a conceptual overview:

The nice thing about the syndication program is that you don't have to create, search for or steal additional content. You just use the content provided by Zango and stored on their servers.

What you do first is decide what category of content your visitors would be interested in seeing. This is broad enough that you should be able to make this determination just on common sense. For example if your website is a video website than "video content" seems appropriate. "Games content" would probably be a good match for a gaming website. Get the idea? You can go to the Zango website and look under the syndication program to see all of their categories (ie; software, screensavers, adult, audio, etc).

Some of these categories have thousands of different pieces of content from which you can choose to offer on your website. But which of these choices should you select? Be assured that selecting the "wrong" content over the "right" content can mean a loss of $100s or even $1000s of dollars per month. Maybe more if it keeps you from getting into the Bonus.

Here is how I go about finding which content works (converts) best on my websites. For purposes of this example lets assume that my website allows visitors to download free or shareware desktop items (ie; screensavers, wallpapers, themes, etc.)

    1. First I create a dynamic (random) syndicated program using the category that I feel best compliments the website. I decide upon screensavers. I go to the Programs page of the Zango website and select the Syndicated program. On the next page I select the website (my desktop items website), select the Content Delivery Format (Dynamic) and select the Delivery Output (Javascript). I then create and name a new "Content List" for this particular syndicated program. Then by browsing the content tree I select the entire branch (category) called "screensavers". This category has approximately 400 different screensavers, all of which will now be available to display on my website. Continuing on to the following pages (NEXT) I am able to further configure and dress-up this content list. I select how many screensavers I want to display at one time (I normally choose 3-5 when I setup my first syndicated program), the size of the ads, colors, borders, how often to change the ads, etc. When I am finished I am presented with a piece of javascript code that I can place into my website. This code will display the Zango screensavers as I have configured them. But since I chose the "Dynamic" delivery format when first setting up the program and specified that the ads should change every 5 minutes, a different set of 5 screensavers will be displayed every 5 minutes.
    2. Now I let the website run as usual. Zango will keep track of all the "hits" and "installs" that this Syndicated program generates. But more importantly, Zango also keeps track of the "hits" and "installs" that each INDIVIDUAL screensaver accumulates. We will use this information later. What we need now is enough data to see trends. The amount of daily visitors your website receives will help you determine how long to let the Dynamic Syndication program run. I normally allow my websites to run for a month before I start analyizing the data (though I do view it every day because I can't help myself :D).
    3. After a month's worth of data has accumulated I then go the the Reports page of the Zango website. I click on the Syndication Report Type and then set the Timeframe to "Days of" the current month or "Months of" the current year. The online report will then show the total "hits", "installs" and "installs/hits ratio" for the selected timeframe. If you then click on the "content list" hyperlink the report will break down the numbers by content list (nice if you created several content lists). Now for what we're really after ... from within the "content list" view click on the name of the content list that you created. You will then be presented with the stats for each individual screensaver within that list. Just quickly eyeballing that list will show you that several screensavers have much higher "hits" and "installs" than others. But what I key on is the "installs/hits ratio" column. Click on the heading of the "installs/hits ratio" column to sort the entire list by the "installs/hits ratio". This list now shows which INDIVIDUAL screensavers have the best chance of being installed when clicked by your visitors. THESE ARE YOUR MONEYMAKERS. I normally discard the ones that have only 1 or 2 "hits" as I feel there wasn't really enough data to make a determination. After identifying the best screensavers in terms of "installs/hits ratio" we are ready for the next step.
    4. Go back to step one and create another Syndicated program. Give it a differerent name to distinguish it from other programs. But this time select the Content Delivery Format (Static). Now when you go on the the content selection page DO NOT SELECT THE ENTIRE BRANCH (category) of screensavers. Select only those 3-5 screensavers that had the best "installs/hits ratio" in the detail reports. Complete the creation process as you did in step one and get you javascript code. Now what you have is code that will always display your best converting Zango screensavers on every pageload. Folks, this WILL increase your overall installs and earnings.

This is exactly how I go about determining which Zango content to use on my websites. You can go a little further though. Once you have identified which content performs the best, you can dress-up each piece (screensaver) seperately as described in this post. Basically you are changing the "look" of the ad to anything you want by using Delivery Output (Zip).

    This works. Good luck.

Hey there is a ton of money to be made selling Cocaine too. It's all about your own personal ethics. People that could care less about anyone but themselves tend to be the kind of people I like to hang with. Homer Simpson Sarcasm.
