I confirm what eddy2099 says from my experience. I think your chances to get your money back through a paypal dispute are big.
Yeah. You'rent idiot. But you might want to ask for people here before you'd bought that. Most people would helped you...
Thanks for the responses guys. I have opened a dispute with PayPal and taken screenshots of everything. The amount in question is $400, so it's certainly enough to leave a bad taste. The seller was advertising on a few different places including DealASite.com, but not DP. Update: My shyster friend informed me last night he's just left for the Caribbean. Actually, his permanent residence is only a 3 hour drive from me. I hope I don't have to make a house call! Update: He did in fact try and sell here on DP: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=251148
My name is David Berube, and I'm the President of Swift Blue, the original makers of the script that you purchased. It JUST came to my attention that the person you bought the script from is selling it illegally. He had purchased a 1 domain copy of the script and has since sold it and duplicated it for himself. I just sent you a PM as well. I just wanted to jump in here and let you know that I am going to be trying to get in contact with this guy as well. David
David, as per our conversation earlier this evening I will be forwarding you a copy of the conversation log file in which you gave our company an unconditional release with respect to the product in question.
How much money did you loose? If it’s a lot then maybe you should to something about it but otherwise just forget it. It really depends…
Its $400, as mentioned by him: This is really unfortunate, not from $$$ perspective but more from business ethics perspective. The person in question has committed two crimes a) illegally selling the script and b) conning unsuspecting user by giving wrong information. I think you have a strong case against that person provided you and David Berube join together to nail this guy. All the best!
I can't see PayPal coming to party as the deal is "virtual". He provided the "goods" that you purchased and so the deal was done. That the sales material for the "goods" weren't correct I gather that you had the opportunity prior to purchase to verify that. Scammers suck, but until people take a few minutes to do their due diligence on a purchase scammers will continue to make easy money. At the top of the sites section of this forum there is a sticky on how to buy and sell a site. Anyone looking to buy a site online should take a few minutes to read it, and follow the advice within.
Thanks NeoGen for the comments, and thanks to dberube for helping out. Sarah, you are right on all counts. My fault for poor due diligence. I was starting to feel like an old pro, but this has put me right on my ass. And, PayPal can't do anything. The verdict was instantaneous: "We have completed our investigation of this case. We have denied this claim. PayPal’s Buyer Complaint Policy only applies to the shipment of goods, not to disputes about the attributes or quality of the goods received." Well, lesson learned. Trust little, and always do your research.
It is terrible what happened to you, but you have to be careful with who you choose to conduct business. There are many honest people here at Digital Point like myself, who have good reputations and no reason to scam members. It is these individuals you should seek out.
Thanks for sharing your story. It could happen to anyone, maybe now I will not do the same mistake thanks to you
You have to be careful with these templated websites. I hear a lot of companies are hiring indians to do small modifications to the webtemplates and then sell them off as a profit.
