Welcome to DP. :) Try this tool . You can check MSN and others all at once. You can also check many domains at once...see how you stack up against the competition.

Google can't just ban or penalize a site for off site SEO or linking ect as a search engine doesn't know who is doing this work/tricks/linking...

Otherwise i could just use coop to improve my sites ranking by using my weight on competitors web sites to get then penalized so i move up higher in the SERP's...

Your theory is good and what most consider correct. However, Google CAN do as they wish. That is not to infer that they have/ will ban COOP member sites.

I thought this thread died along time ago?

See here for a current COOP ranking experiment.

Noticed lately that in my ads at the bottom of my site I now have co-op loading a 1x1 pixel image. This would seem like a VERY easy way for Google to detect and ban co-op members. Anyone else concerned about this, and whats it for anway ?

Been discussed before... unless Googlebot starts spoofing as a user agent that can utilize it, they wouldn't see it. It's only shown to known browsers that could actually use it (it's used to track real end user traffic, and not bots and stuff).

Isn't this somekind of Reverce User Agent cloaking?
You should have expected this question?

Reverse user agent cloaking? Never heard of that one, but if you consider serving content based on things certain user agents can utilize cloaking, then I suppose so. But that means almost every major site is guilty of it.

For example, this forum software (vBulletin) only serves up the DHTML menu system to user agents that can understand it, which is why Google's cache doesn't have DHTML menus:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:forums.digitalpoint.com

Google does it as well. In their search results, if you are using Internet Explorer for Windows without Google's desktop search installed, you will get a message at the bottom of the results telling you about it and giving you a link to it.

    Same general idea...

Which makes me believe that the coop won't get penalized. The rankability factor is another thing, but that is where the risk lies. A program designed to "just increase rankings" and nothing else, is risky.

A lot of people say that but the 1 year anniversary is coming up and I still hold numerous number 1 positions or first page positions for our web site; including Google. No penalties here. I have been in since December of last year.

#2 position in Yahoo (only after we signed up for their directory though... couldn't get past 30 without it)
#7 Google (Thank You Ad Network)
#2 - #7 MSN. We jump around daily on that one.

That is for the main keyword phrase. We have numerous others as well.

What comes up must come down :) But I don't think the coop will have probs in the future. I am not sure what the search engine ranking side-effect to the advertising problem will turn out to be, but other than maybe losing a little bit of power when it comes to increasing rankings, I don't see any :) I have never joined the coop, but I think I'm about to hehe
