Elite when anyone can join? There is an application on almost every page.

But remember we are volunteer editors giving of our spare time for no financial reward, before you apply.

    Most editor applications get rejected.

Not true:confused: Some editor applications get rejected. Although i have no involvement with editor applications, i would think that if you submit an application and it shows you can learn to edit, then there is only really one other thing that needs to be displayed:)

Honesty and the disclosure of ALL sites that you are affilliated with. Nothing more and nothing less, but i suspect that this may be why some applications are rejected :)

How do you know nothing has changed?

I am always glad when people complain that editor applications get rejected, it means that we do really keep up our standards.

Is that why caprichoso is so vitriolic, it usually is because a person has been booted as an editor, rejected as an editor, had a site removed or can't get a site listed, sometimes it is because they have managed to get their own site banned from the directory or an excuse to become an ex-editor after having used the Directory to get certain sites listed.

Not happened to me. Never applied for editor, never had a site removed. Submitted a couple of sites in the past (more that two years ago) and never tried again. :)
wow that's interesting. Do you need and excuse for stop editing on DMOZ? I thought it was a volunteer work. Those jobs you do whenever you want and if you want.

Some people come list their own site, find an excuse and leave. Its called abusive editing.

But you have had sites not yet accepted. The chances are, unless they are spammy useless sites, that they sit around in the suggestions pool waiting for an editor to work on that category using the suggestions pool. You no doubt think that your sites are better than the ones we have listed. But all is not lost they might one day get listed, and please don't offer them again if this "never tried again" is about the same sites.

flybliss was listed just 3 days after it was suggested to the correct category - and that includes a day passing through the spam filters. That's exceptional but it does happen from time to time.

This is completely off topic, however you may want to look at http://nycfirstdate.com/ with FireFox. It's all messed up.

Google used DMOZ in '98-'99 when it was still a very small company because they needed a starting point for their crawler so that they could index the Web. Nowadays, the only thing that's worth mentioning about DMOZ is that it has a high PR, and there is nothing else worth talking about really.

You can buy a DMOZ listings at multiple freelance sites for about $100 if you really want it. After all the senior DMOZ editors need their income, you don't think they spend so much time defending DMOZ for just the hell of it, do you? ;)

I thought you could not buy your way into DMOZ? Where did you see that you can buy a listing on DMOZ? Which sites offer this?

Of course you can, why did think that some of the DMOZ editors are in multiple forums, promoting DMOZ listings? ;)

This is old news, read about here. :D

When I click the first site in your signature, the first thing I notice is that the photos are all distorted. Some are stretched horizontally, some vertically - many of them are forced to fit pre-determined sizes that make them look terrible.

As much money as your clients invested in these sites, they should be getting something that looks a LOT better than what I saw in the 5 seconds I spend on your index page.

As for the DMOZ thing, it's like most people have already said. You'll get in when you get in. There's little rhyme or reason to which sites get accepted, because there are definitely a lot of outdated/non-working/outright lame sites listed in there.

Historically I don't know all that much about it, but I'm thinking DMOZ is not what it used to be.

I will certainly not pay $100 for a listing on DMOZ. :) More like $1 would be reasonable.
