Guys, what do you really think of .gov and .edu links? Do you think it really helps in rankings? Isn't it a myth? Any thoughts? Any successful stories from your experience? I am trying to decide if these links play significant role and value more then just regular links.

    hi,

.Gov and .Edu are really great source in gaining ranking in Search Engine.
They are called Authoritative sites but you cannot get links easily from them.

    But try to email them.

I'll spoil it for you: Find do-follow blogs and forums on .gov and .edu domains, then start posting there with a link in your signature. Most edu sites, however, require that you be a student or alumni.

Hey - never thought of registering as an alumni on my university's alumni site - doh :)

It's ac.uk though - wonder if that has any benefits, it's similar to .edu in the US.

I've had great success with them, but you need to have a good site with relevant content or else your links will get canceled out of their system.

Yes it is, I posted 2 comments on 15 blogs for .ac.uk's, then left them for 3 weeks and then added a sig to the posts, this way my posts stuck and I got anchor text on them!
