From : http://www.huomah.com/News/Latest/Google-QA-from-Webmaster-Chat-.html Q. "Are .gov and .edu back links still considered more "link juice" than the common back link?" Matt Cutts; This is a common misconception--you don't get any PageRank boost from having an .edu link or .gov link automatically. Hah John, I beat you to it!
dmi, Although no or less page rank the backlinks from .edu/.gov websites are considered links from trusted/authoritative, that add some value to a page.
I personally don't consider them to carry extra weight if the text available on the edu page is not related to mine...
I am in the process of rethinking this. I was under the same misconception. I caught that post on site point last night. The other included info is quite good as well. Nigel
I have access to tulane.edu and saintleo.edu I am going to see how it works... If it works how I think it will work I'll hook up a blog so ya'll can post...
When Matts Cutts speaks, people should listen. He wrote a good bit of the algo used by Google, its what he does. Nigel
I have e-book guide how to get .edu links with fast seacrh in SE This ebook is MRR and I can give you for Free, just PM
thank u bujubuneng.. just 6 pages report but it very cleary how to get .edu link it's great cos' you give me syntax to search in SE ...
Tulane.edu has more than 50,000 backlinks with a 21 year old domain Saintleo.edu has more than 9,000 backlinks with a 12 year old domain Both domains are Dmoz listed with a pagerank 7 Suppose the websites were .com's; you will notice a decent SERP boost anyway so I doubt you will be able to tell anything from such an experiment. Its not the fact that they are from a .edu site that makes a difference. It's just that 99% of the time, .edu or .gov are aged and tons of backlinks from authority websites.
You can dig up said links by using the following Google handler trickery. site:.edu inurl:blog “post a comment†-“you must be logged in†“search term here†works for .gov as well. hope that helps, Nigel
