Any forum software gets flooded with spam. There are mods out there that can filter out most robot spam via improved captcha and other methods. I have a thread about this in the forums section somewhere.

True. Try searching for phpbb mods on phpbbhacks.com. That's where I get my mods for my phpbb forum. ;)

You can only get less spam on vBulletin if you have the "nospam!" plugin installed.

Vbulletin is worth it. It has countless additional features. I'd highly recommend it if you're serious about your forum endeavors.
