phpbb is a great script especially for somethings thats free, vbulletin is much better though

Vbulletin has things built in that you need to mod with phpbb

PHPBB is better if used with the Category Hierarchies Mod. It does things that VB does not. By itself though PHP is not as good.

Between these 2 I would chose vBulletin, although I'm not such a fan of vBulletin.
If it was SMF vs vBulletin I would chose for SMF :)

I am a strong and absolute phpBB supporter. When Olympus is out you will see why. Even now the only forum I like - and the only forum I deal with - is phpBB.

I actually laughed my ass off when I seen the thread title and I feel sorry for those who voted for PhpBB. PhpBB is so downsided. vBulletin has got the superier side on this.

You live in a van down by the river? Your name isn't Harry by any chance?

Umm, on the poll - well, I think that vbulletin is worth the money you pay. But it's not easy building a forum, so you might want to make sure that you can do it before outlaying the money. If you go with phpbb - you can always upgrade to vb later :) - which is what I did :D

No, and I hope no one takes that Chris Farley as Matt Foley quote too seriously...

I have been watching PHPBB3 since it was first announced, and so far I see it as being excellent. I have used PHPBB2 since 2002, and I like it more than anything else I have ever used. You can't slam phpBB3 unless you have tried the beta, and even then it is still just a beta.

I know it is free - I have used it since 2002. I was replying to the other who said he would use VB if it was free - I countered him with "I would buy phpBB". Please refrain from assumptions about me.
