There won't be any any feeling once you get banned from here!

So, its better to do your main work rather than wondering about reps.

And learn to use Multi-Quote to avoid infractions for not using them or double posting...

Anyway, don't worry about the possible infraction you got here. Consider it an educational check mark that happens to be red.

On to the point. The thing is the rep feature is pretty good in the long run. The gray rep just simply says that your post was "not bad" but not extremely useful. Don't sweat it.

LOL. Haven't got one yet and hope not to get too :)
"Grey" means something else too :) Here it is:

I got a positive (10 points) rep for a post in general talk section from a member who had 5 rep bars with her username. (10 points)
But, for the same post, I got a grey from a member who was "on a distinguished road". That member submitted it green though, but it turned into grey.

Lesson learned: Reputation of the user (who's submitting rep for you) matters too :D

It's roughly analogous to a boxing ring. A heavier fighter has a stronger punch. If a user has high rep, the rep they can throw will be worth more (whether red or green).

As alluded to above, there are some forums where repping someone will pretty much always throw gray unless you're a mod. P&R is an example. I dont know if a full rep bar can throw green in there, but I know I shoot blanks there. Rep is reserved for the "working" forums and devalued in the break areas.

Bear in mind also that if you give a red rep to someone, you will have one rep point deducted for doing so. That keeps people from going on a red rampage. In the early going you'll get hit as hard as the guy you give a red to, so just avoid giving red. Use the green to say thanks where needed and move on.

Fwiw, dont worry about rep. It's going to happen for better or worse whether you do or dont pay attention to it. If you treat people well in here, answer intelligently, make decent contributions, green will come to you naturally. If someone is a putz the red will come just as naturally. It's exactly what it says, reputation. Nobody expects a fairly new member to have a lot of green, so as long as you don't show red you're just fine.

Everybody starts with 10 Green Rep. points.

With 10 points your good rep will be gray but if you have 11 points, then your rep.
will counts and someone will see 1 green rep. added to his/her reputation.

Same applies to Red Reps. if you give one with 10 points in your reps. count,
it will show gray rep. So, your gray reps might be negative reps as well.

Amount of posts has nothing to do with reps.

The only problem I have, is Shawn's fucking system of spreading reps. around
before one can gratify good poster for good post again.

    :)

Give someone Rep. and then start counting how many reps. you have to
give away before you can give another rep. to the same person again.

I have spread around 40 reps by now but I still restricted in giving rep. to
people I want to. Shitbox telling me I have to give away more reps.

Does it make any easier for you to understand?

Yes, you can give it to same person but not soon... Only after giving too many reps to others.

Its good so that you can't misuse this rep thing.

Yeah, we can give it to same person, but as fastreplies sadi, even after giving away 40 reps, he wasn't able to give rep to the same person :)

Now, that's weird. If it were, say, 10 reps before you give it to same person, it would have been fine. But 40+ reps ain't good ;)

Well, if it was like that then I would have given you negative ten points in reps in each 2 days... :)

WooHoo!! Now that clears my doubt, why I had a Grey although the submitter had a cheerful experience when I had solved his issue.
