IS THIS POSSIBLE? TO MAKE A COMPETITOR GO LOWER ON SE'S

THE SITE THAT NEEDS TO GO LOW

    dETAILS
"This project is to take a competitor that has posted slander, lies and much worse---on their bulletin board---and linked it to #1 on Google and #9 on Yahoo when someone searches the name of OUR company. The search not only goes to their website but directly to the slanderous bulletin board posting, which is killing us. The project is to take their site way down (or out) in the search results so it is no longer an issue, for specific key words,"

The Question one has to ask is WHY do they have this bad rep, what wil be the outcome of your actions? IE will more innocent people suffer?

If this really is libelous (slander is the spoken word, libel the written), then why has he simply not taken it down via legal chanells? Of course you can't take another site down by fair means (although you can by fowl), it is fairly easy to fill the serps with good pages from various sites to paint the site in a good light.

Again though I would ask myself, I am simply burying the truth for money?

The fastest way would be a letter from a lawyer to the webmaster of the offending page.

On a related issue, does anyone know how blogspot responds to a letter from an attorney indicating one of their hosted blogs is slandering someone?

I have a close associate who is being slandered. He has easy access to attorneys if blogspot will do anything, but if it is just a civil suit against a publisher, that is a different scenario entirely.

    It's called the wuss principal.

If you get a nice legal looking letter drafted out and have proof, they'll take it down...unless of course they call your bluff and want a legal battle - then it's money out of both of your pockets

The magic phrase to include in your letter is " as the offending material is hosted on your servers I will have no option other than to co-name you in any action resulting from this content"

What you need to do though is to write to the people who have got it up RECORDED! You must insist they remove the material within 7 days, and do not post it elsewhere in any public or private space. You then send a copy of this letter to the hosting company, and quote the magic phrase.

My guess is that the site gets pulled faster than a speeding bullet. UNLESS it is NOT libelous, but in fact true, in which case THEY will challenge YOU to a court case, as it is in their best interests and your clients worse interests to go to court.

Tread carefully on this one, as if these people have an axe to grind, do you REALLY want to get in the middle?

My gut is telling me there is FAR more to this than meets the eye, and to walk away from it.
