They are talking about it again. This is not the first time.

I think if microsoft buys yahoo and runs them it would make google stronger. Microsoft is not as good as yahoo running a search engine.

I looked into yahoo/google balance sheet and consolidated income statement, it seems yahoo is generating more ROI than google... that is return on investment. I think they are doing pretty good.

but ROI has nothing to do with being the bigger, better site...google wins hands down on that level...

it'll be interesting to see if yahoo actually thinks about doing it this time...

Yahoo and MSN is way far away from Google, even they merges with other giants also, I don't think they'll come closer to G..

They win on being the bigger site. "Better" is very subjective. I've recently switched to Yahoo exclusively and have their search results to be on par/better than Google's. Just because Google had a better algorithm in 2004, doesn't mean they still do. Google's main strength now is it's public image and brand recognition. I personally don't trust them, so they offer me no benefit.

I'll admit...that is actually the reason i use them the most (apart from all the neat features they offer)...i haven't used yahoo search in a while...i'll have to go check it out and see if it's better/equal now :D

Google can not die in next 5 years, even if MSN steals their algorithm. Google took time to be popular and at least same time is required to a search engine to become more popular than Google.

I don't understand this pessimism, no one can beat google? its possible, you just need couple of billion dollars and good brains. Yahoo didn't find good brains yet, maybe microsoft will help - they have some interesting people working, like Steve Balmer :D

With the integration of Live Search in Vista I can only see MS's market share increasing. Drastically.

Combine that with a merger with Yahoo, and within a year I could see a MS / Yahoo combination accounting for over half of all searches.

You must remember the guys running Yahoo search will be retained if the companies merge because we allknow MS search isn't as good as Yahoo.

Yeah, agree, if MS bought Y, they will gain the access to how to make a good SE just exactly like Y does. But I'd say, it's not good for us, it means less competition and we'll be left in few choices, I prefer they're still like now in separate companies to compete each other, and even hope there will be other giants coming in the arena. Monopoly is usually a bad thing

Either way, the MS/Yahoo! offering will have a lot of work to do to catch up!
