There is a domain that is a PR 6 that is not going to be renewed by its owners. I am already in the same industry so getting this would really help. I have tried contacting them personally, but they don't even edit the site as it has broken files, and they don't respond to emails anymore. I would like to know the process of going about getting ahold of this when it expires in 2 weeks. Is it a first come first served? Where do I do it? and any other information you can help with to
There is some very good information here: http://www.mikeindustries.com/blog/archive/2005/03/how-to-snatch-an-expiring-domain -Erik
Great link to a great blog on snatching expired domains. I always thought they would be more immediate to grab after expiring.
Better expired domains can easily sell for several thousand dollars! Which may seem justified? Though most will not retain their traffic as Google does not appear to give credit for existing links. Also be careful of Network Solutions domains with a high PR. Network Solutions often links to the domain creating a high PageRank. After the domain is sold the link is removed.
Best 1 page answer for timing: https://www.snapnames.com/deleteprocess.html Post the registrar for more info on where it will go when/if it "expires"
There is something called "backorder", I think godaddy has it. It sounds as very easy to grab expired names. The registration is more expensive in that case.
From what I have heard if there is any demand for the domain Godaddy will not be successful in grabbing for you. Good luck.
Ok Great help but how does the line up work??? Can you put your name in now to apply? Do I have to be the first one to buy it at the stroke of midnight? How exactly does the release work?
There is some good information in this thread as well. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=68410 and here http://www.bobparsons.com/adddropscheme.html.
Registrars have a bad tendency if there is interest in an expired domain, to hold it for auction to the highest bidder. Or they will keep it for themselves hoping for an even greater bid.
GoDaddy's backorder is all but worthless. If the domain is at GoDaddy, it will go to www.tdnam.com and be put up for auction. http://www.snapnames.com http://www.pool.com http://www.namewinner.com http://www.enom.com (club drop) etc. Try backordering at all of the above, you don't get charged unless you win the name.
They're fine if the name is dropping from a non-aligned registrar, but if not... no dice. For example, the domain AA1.com drops tomorrow, and ONLY Snapnames.com will get it because it is being released from network solutions, which is partnered with snap. You need to know the registrar to know the backorder service to use.
Any idea what AA1.com might sell for? Guess I need to put in a minimum bid so I can watch the action.
Knowing the registrar is only useful if the domain is at one of the registrars participating in something called pre-release and if the domain has not yet entered the expired process. If the domain enters the expired process the best way to get it is to backorder the name. Here are the top backorder services and the number of registrars each one has. It should give you an indication of who is more powerful. 1) pool.com – 149 2) Enom Club Drop – 69 3) NameWinner – 60 4) SnapNames - 54 5) Godaddy – 3 If you can't get a hold of the current owner then there is nothing you can do at this point. Wait until the expiration date and then check the status. Then you can determine what to do next. If the domain turns out to be a pre-release name you can check the pre-release search at pcNames.com to find out where to enter the auction.
I have nothing against GoDaddy's backorder but didn't get anything from them. At the same time I backordered with Enom.com. Enom.com is a different story. I managed to get SEOgeek.com, InsaneMind.com and 1stgirl.com via their backorders.
I politely disagree, only because pool.com's partner registrars are very small, and relatively new to the ame so are lacking the quantity and quality of domain names that end up at snap (being partnered with networksolutions, the old iana). "Powerful" would be snap for consistently ending up in the top 10 at dnjournal.com , even if snap annoys the hell out of me most of the time
