Steps to follow before buying a proxy site.

Buying a proxy site is often an easy way to quickly start making money with advertising, but it's also a good way to waste a lot of money.

Here is a list of things you should check before buying an established proxy site:

    1. Check whether or not the proxy is already blacklisted by censor programs - i.e. websense. You can check by accessing the site from a campus or workplace which utilises this protection.

    2. Check that the host's TOS allows proxies. There's nothing worse than buying a proxy site and then getting an e-mail from the abuse dept saying that the script has over-used resources. Make sure to check with the previous owner and the hosts. (When checking with a host via their WHOIS information, do not mention the name or URL of the proxy site in question. Getting someone removed from their server can get them really narchy)

    3. Check that the script itself is hotlink-protected, uses g-zip compression, and "ad compatability" (if it's PHProxy, check that the miniform (the area where you can put ads) shows up on all proxified pages. If it doesn't, I can fix that for you when you have access to the script).

    4. Check whether it's well backlinked - if it's on a number of proxy voting sites, that's good.

    5. Check with the seller how much maximum bandwidth is available each month.

If you have any to add to this list please post them here. This is just a basic guide.
