Bing is Microsofts search engine. Like I wrote in a previous thread it is extremely focused with OnPage SEO meta data: titles/description/tags. The full analysis can be found here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1365346 . Now if what analyzed above is true (looks like it is) this means users of Bing, which are PC buyers (a huge market segment) can probably be broken down into further segments to see who used Live.com, and who is most likely to use Bing today and in the future. Why is this information important? Because Bing is so focused on Meta data, finding the right niche is more valuable than ever. This means simply writing about the content (the users care about) without worrying about backlinks could be a potential goldmine. From neowin: talking about Live.com users "it’s mostly people that are searching for files on their own hard drive who accidentally click the ’search the net’ button." If that theory is correct almost all Live Search sessions would come from Windows systems running IE. Sure enough, they found that an overwhelming 99.82% of all Live Search sessions are Windows machines running IE." Not a huge shocker, but a great eye opener. We can now make a better informed decision on what type of traffic Bing is likely to send our way as Webmasters. We know the Windows PC and search are intertwined so the PC industry should prove to be a goldmine. Whether it's a PC proxy, PC repair, PC "insert word here". The PC had a monopoly for Live.com users...99%! This means by focusing on PC related issues you are almost certain to reach your target audience. This was a great revelation to me I would have personally taken advantage of months ago with mini sites but have since moved on to bigger projects. Start a blog about something to do with PCs...excessively optimize the OnpageSEO for Bing, and watch the dollars come in. Just don't start a blog hyping up the PS3 as it will fall on deaf ears. Thoughts?
Except that niche is very small. Only 1.7% of my traffic comes from Bing. I can optimize the snot of of it and still not make any money. wiz
I have noticed that I am getting a ton of traffic from bing. But then I was getting a ton of traffic from MSN before Not sure this will be the end of Google's domination of the search engines and Google optimization is still a must do
Ok, so 99% search the net instead of the hard drive; now what happens when they see the search results? Do they say "sh*t I searched the net instead of my hard drive" and click on the search results anyway; or do they "sh*t I searched the net instead of my hard drive" and run a search of their hard drive instead?
I don't get it. msn or bing should have it quite easy to at least compete with google... every time you use an Microsoft App they direct you there...
Bing still does not properly index everything on a website. Google seems like they don't care and index everything, put weights pages based on PR links etc. It seems like if the bot does not like a page url it just ignores it.
Good post. You should also note that bing (MS) users don't just look for PC stuff. Think about their mentality for a moment. They're people who don't realise how crap IE and Live are. They're probably the kind of people who do those "Text in to get your love percentage" things. Get into their heads and you'll see there are all sorts of opportunities there.
Ranking on page two of Google is better than ranking number 1 for then same keyword on Bing. With that, I rest my case.
okay.. seems interesting.. now i think i found wat to add to my new tech blog to get dat bing traffic!
