I would make it more like a 100 foot poll.

A Discussion on Executive Power with Dr. Ron Paul, Presented by the Federalist Society Chapter of Franklin Pierce Law Center, Concord, NH, 12/19/07

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7493899900883927358&hl=en

Really long, really good Q&A session starts about halfway through.

    ------------------------

    Politifact
"It used to be the policy of the Republican Party to get rid of the Department of Education. We finally get in charge and a chance to do something, so we double the size of the Department of Education."
Ron Paul on Wednesday, December 12th, 2007 in a debate in Johnston, Iowa

    So true, he's understating it.
    http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/239/

Great explanation of why the Department of Education is a useless bureaucracy, and the Republicans have not only abandoned one of their longest held platform positions, they have exacerbated the problem.

What's missing in the discussions on New Hampshire being a "Paul state" is that the Iowa Republican Caucus is also open to Independents and Democrats to register GOP on the night of the caucus, and the Michigan Primary also allows crossover voters quite liberally.

We're going to shock a lot of people in Iowa, and that momentum will carry over to New Hampshire. Operation Live Free or Die now has over 400 people on the ground in NH, and precinct houses set up all over the state, organizing canvassers, distributing literature and phone banking.

Of course, looking at the whole poll (thanks WaPo for posting the methodology), they were only polling the infamous "likely Republican voters" of which 50% or so say they may not even Caucus. When you figure that some polls show Paulunteers likely to Caucus at 80+%, I really like our chances to finish 3rd, or even second. I'm including all of the Dems, Independents and people without landlines who make up the base of Paul's support. That 8% are the Bush Republicans.

Huck seems to be flying, as does Paul (to a lesser extent.)

But Americas fake mayor is on the wane. Do you think the scumbag has overcooked the 9/11 card and it's coming back to bite him on the arse?

Giuliani will crush Huckabee on Super Tuesday. You can book that.

I've said before, I only see a field of 3 candidates.

    Rudy, Mitt and Paul.

The girl in the Christmas video is pretty hot. What the hell am I doing spending the holidays in hell incarnate? (Was like 80 today, so much for a White Xmas)

While not residing in the USA, I must say Ron Paul has a very sharp list of policies based on what the people want and what's genuinely good for the nation. Why don't we trade.. You can have Rudd (our new Prime Minister) and you give us Paul.

I wanted to clarify this exert from an article I read in the paper.

    Source

For some reason, I find this pretty hard to believe. Can someone in the US verify this for me?

    Thanks

Nope, it's true. He wins every online and text-messaging poll, and even wins a majority of the straw polls (kinda like a real poll, but just for kicks, they hold them at fairs and other big events). The only polls he does not do well in are phone polls, which are generally considered the most scientific. I'm not going to reopen the argument as to why those polls aren't as scientific as they claim to be and shit all over the updates thread, but suffice it to say that Paul has a lot of support that the phone polls don't register, and Paul has a supporter base who is much more dedicated and larger than any other candidate in the race.

If polls don't matter when Paul is behind, then they don't matter when he is leading. Be consistent.

They matter. They're motivation to work harder. Every single percentage point is earned with 1000's of dollars and thousands of grassroots activists.

What's special, is that it's a given that we're going to turn out better than the polls. In the primaries, hardly anyone votes. Like 10% of the party. Great stage for an upset.

Lexiseek/Will -> The polls provide some useful information on the current support for GOP candidates amongst a small percentage of Bush's 2004 supporters. They don't give a complete picture though and it is the representation of the polls in the media that drew (and continues to draw) much criticism from the RP camp. When RP is doing well in those polls, it is very encouraging because we know that he also has a very large group of "invisible" support that the polls are not canvassing.
