I thought the number of ads depends on the availability of advertisers... Does it depend on the content too?

Critters am I right so far. I have kept looking around at other sites and looking at my sites and 160x600 is still going strong with no ad changes.
    Have you noticed the same??

Critters I noticed that on your drag a pig site you've removed the images above the ads this entire thread was originally about. What happened, and what motivated the change? If it's okay, why change it, since it was apparently working? Just curious.

We should all try to use screenshots from now, 1. better to understand, good for everyone 2. There's more to learn

Well guys it looks like google has also changed the way the 160x600 ads are displayed. I finally found a site that the vertical ads change from 5 to 3 and so on.

this is the site, adsense is on the left. First vertical adsense doesnt seem to be affected but he also has a second vertical ad under the first and that ad changes from 5 to 4 to 3. ps3today.com

    :(

You should have taken a screenshot.

In that case it looks like simply a lack of inventory. When you see an ad that shows fewer "on purpose" the ads fill out the whole ad space with larger font.

well im still seeing 3 ads instead of 5 but its like you said 3 normal ads in postion unlike when they space them out.

So maybe its lack of ads and hopefully they have not affected the 160x600. this is the only site so far that i could find anything wrong witht he vertical ad so i had to let you guys know.

Why don't you want them to be affected? Those ads pay more and increase CTR.

Becuase when they change the ads do not match the images and inturn losses the effect of what we are trying to achieve using images with ads:rolleyes:

This thread started back in May...your using an outdated technique

Change your tactics to match what Google is doing. You can't change what they do...only what you do. Once you accept that it makes life much easier :)

this technique still works just depends on the layout of you ads. I have used it in search results and ctr has more than tripled.

Nice example! If you use it on a half banner or button your guaranteed to keep it looking the way you intend. You know there will always only be one ad.

Ive have done it in all types of ways on my sites, using 2 ads and 2 images
1 ad 1with 1 image and so on but I noticed that the 160x600 wasnt affected and if it wasnt affected anyone who was still interested in doing 4 ads 4 images could do so.
I also use 1 large image next to the ads and the ctr is high using that technique as well.;) :D
