Hi Guys ! I have recently heard about something known as Paid inclusions in a search engine like Google. According to that U can submit individual pages in Google & that too paid. You have heard me right PAID. I use to think there is nothing PAID in Google expect PPC, but this Google Paid Inclusions. PLEASE can somebody throw some light on this & tell me how to go about it. Your Feedback would be appreciated. Thanx -Joanne
I have not heard about this, nor do I think it will ever happen. You can pay to get into the Yahoo! directory, but google, other than PPC, doesn't have this function.
Joanne, whatever you heard, whoever told you so, is nothing but 100% pure BS. There is nothing like paid inclusion in Google.
I have heard similar things and they allways turn out to be Google Adwords PPC programs. From an advertisers point of view, it is not entirely incorrect that you can pay to be included in Google
These two threads make me wonder about such things: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=59675 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=58918 I imagine pontiac.com will always be in the top 10, but would you spend as much as they have (the ads have been running for awhile now) AND mention Google unless you knew for certain you were going to be at the top? If I were the SEO of a pontiac related site, I would be doing flips and twists trying to knock them out for the publicity.
Don't listen to DigitalCamera, he sent me a nasty, rude, and racist PM! I can show someone screenshots and everything!
The commercial mentioned in the threads previously linked says: "Google Pontiac, and see for yourself!" and shows the Google homepage. But why Google? They are #1 in Yahoo, MSN, and Ask as well. Why not say "Search it out" or "Visit us at Pontiac.com"? Just because of the way it looks, if I were the Google lawyer, I would be sending a cease and desist... I don't see that they really need the publicity enough to let it go if Pontiac did this on their own. Then again, it could be a Google paid placement into the Pontiac commercial, like they do in the movies and TV shows now. But do they really need to advertise at this point?
I would suspect that google chipped in some funds for the commercial so they would get a mention. It's good product placement and cheaper than running an ad just about google. //or they may have some other arraignment, but somehow google is paying something for getting mentioned.
I don't think Google paid or had any part in that commercial. Pontiac has been trying to target a younger demographic with their latest cars and young people know Google so it's a smart way to connect with the audience Pontiac is after.
even i am very skeptical, google will not do that.. why would they in the first place when they are already making good money from PPC.. moreover, if they allow paid inclusion, they will be going against their basic motive of providing the best relevant search results..
Isn't it just possible that Pontiac.com has been the top search under Pontiac for a long time and since it's considered a "Trusted Source" website, Google decided to participate in this advertising campaign? The truth is that Pontiac.com would be the #1 listing for "Pontiac" searches whether there was an advertising agreement between the two companies or not.
After cheking a little more into this, I think Markhutch's answer is the most reasonable. My site is alojate.com (spanish for "host here"). If you search for "alojate" I appear in the first place, even if there are a number of web hosting providers, hotels and travel agencies with the same keyword. The same happens with volkswagen, chrysler, and a number of recognised brands. I think pontiac is only cashing in google's recognition as the leading search engine.
