Google Pontiac

Has anyone else noticed the shameless Google plug on the new pontiac commercials?

Dureing the commercials, the narrator says, "Just Google Pontiac to find a dealer near you!" Then they flash over to a computer screen and show the Google page.

    Shameless?

    I'd call it smart.

Wouldn't you put your website into commercials like this if you had the opportunity.... or would you turn that down as being shameful?

    /or I'm I taking you too literally?

yes, you are taking it a bit serious. I just though it was a bit funny, since Google hardly needs Pontiac to advertise for them.

Maybe they are just showing off thier SEO skills :)

But think about it, it ads instant credibility to them.

Just google it. People will think they are truely an authoritive site to be on google for such a high prestige car as a pontiac etc etc.

    Very smart marketing ploy. :)

I've noticed recently that the vast majority of Internet users (non Webmasters) use Google instead of the address bar.

Most people (still) don't realize that you can type in pontiac.com into the address bar instead of 'http://www.*' or just 'www.*'

Now hopefully Pontiac isn't doing any cloaking... ;)

Most pontiac buyers tend to be older people, sure its effective, but not as effective as going with another manufacturer. What's next? Buick? That's not (properly) targeting a younger audience effectively in hindsight. If they actually wanted to target an older audience getting onto google, that just leaves frustration open for (older) people seeking pontiac. If however there goal was to target their bloated land yachts to younger people (as a last hope grasp) it's not effective at all. Regardless of what their (google's) goal is, it's not as effective as it could've been. Hard to say who's paying who. Can't imagine google would shell out anything to pontiac really.

I doubt they need SEO skills at all. Their marketing abilities in other media could drive eskmos to a website that sells ice it's so powerful!

I think maybe Google is just reinforcing the term "Just Google it". Maybe to try and reach more audiences by doing a bit more Tv marketing.

I don't think Google paid anything to be in this ad. Pontiac has been trying to target younger audiences with their latest cars and young people know Google - it's a way for Pontiac to connect with their target market.

Was watching the 11 o'clock news here in California and I saw a Pontiac car commercial. During the commercial it showed Google's homepage and then they typed in Pontiac and clicked "Google Search"...anyone know if there was a special deal behind this or if Pontiac just prefers Google?

Not the most important thread, most curiosity than anything :).

Edit I appologise...This is a rather old commercial just never aired before in california *did a search just now*. Forgive me :).
