What will be the effect in search engine optimization point of view if we change http://www.exampleurl.com to https://www.exampleurl.com ? Presently one of our client site has 4 PR and there url like http://www..... Now they want to change there site url to https://www........ Is there any effect in there site ranking or page rank if we change http:// to https://? which one is good for link building http:// or https:// ?
Technically it's a different page so you'll need to set up a 301 redirect from your http pages to your https pages. Their PR will therefore probably take a while to transfer over to the https pages. In the long run it won't make any difference to site ranking or PR whether you have http or https, as long as the correct redirects are in place.
Can you not just set up a secure part of the site? Surely the homepage doesn't need https? It makes the site a lot slower.
Netprophet, I'd be very careful. I'm working on an https based site. Its a lot harder to make progress.
I wouldn't recomment him to go for https unless really needed spiders want public information, when it's https it could be sensitive information
