I am going through the same situation. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=6232297#post6232297

Please, beware and check your paypal accounts as soon as possible, if you find that you have the same problem open a dispute (investigation of an unauthorized activity claim). The more reports - the more chance we have of having our money back.
    *sighs* I am devasted.

    What the hell!?!?!?
Today I got an email from PayPal saying I should open a dispute. I already did that. Now I tried to login to my PayPal account and I couldn't access it. I reset the password again and I noticed the dispute to be closed by PayPal with an explanation that the buyer confirmed the transaction. That supposed to be me. How did they hack my account again?

Now I can't even open a dispute again.

Somehow this person is cancelling disputes to slow down the investigations and the cases are getting closed.

I changed my paypal password but they managed to get into my account again
I think they are also getting into our e-mail accounts. The "case closed" message was deleted from my mailbox.

I contacted paypal through their own contact form https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/helpscr?cmd=_help&t=escalateTab, opened a dispute without an ID :( changed each and every password, security questions, deleted credit cards, am paranoid, devasted and waiting for a reply.

LOOOOL this is crazy. it looks like a reality show.

This happens because you are simply dumb.

If you was smart you could do the following:
    1. Scan your computer with an anti-virus and other spyware removal apps.
    2. Change password of Gmail and other mail providers.
    3. Change DigitalPoint password + other accounts using your password.
    4. Change PayPal password & secret answers
    5. Open a dispute to PayPal (tell them to check IP logs)

You will get your stolen money back within 24 hours and you will be 100% safe.

    Glad you find this amusing.
This is real life, things happen faster than what you read in "protect your pc" articles.
Hope it will never happen to you or if it does, none calls you dumb because of other people's lack of honesty.

I cant change my passwords because he already changed them. I am on a Live Linux distro right now. Now this means I cannot login to PayPal or my old Gmail account do please DO NOT open or recieve anything that comes from daniel.vukadinovic at gmail.com.

EDIT> Somehow I managed to restore my Gmail password through my second email account and then my PayPal account also. I already PMed Jeremy Schoemaker about restoring my original DigitalPoint account back. Now I got back my most valuable things, my PayPal account is frozen and I hope to get my money back.

What legal actions can I take against the hacker? If I manage to get his IP from PayPal and report it to his and my local PD I can get his personal information. Can I file a lawsuit against him?

Glad you have your gmail and dp back!
I hope our accounts are under investigation and we get things sorted out soon.

A lawsuit would be fair, any lawyers around here? Any advices would be greatly appreciated.
It is not only about money, though that is an important part, but the stress is so intense... :/

Glad to hear everything worked out for you, as far as filing a lawsuit, it depends on your local applicable laws and the laws of the country the person resides in.

Criminal investigations can be slow so I would advise you to seek both criminal and civil penalties. Paypal will not pursue these charges for you.

Well, I talked to them (very helpful PayPal customer service representatives) they were incredibly nice and told me they would contact me by e-mail within a short period.

I will be waiting for their reply for 3 days and then call them again.

    Attention everyone!

If you are going through the same thing, you may call them for free, even if you live in another country. Drop me an IM and I will do my best to help.

the hacker maybe careless at first not knowing that i put on a notification for my account paypal and i get to know that their taking my money out but sooner after that, maybe they had changed the paypal setting so i don't know what's happening on my account now. i got this from doing the job for "damweb". http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=658988&page=2

however, i'm a bit unlucky that the nearest paypal center to me is in Singapore and they're really bad on customer service. i can 't even get their contact number even though i registered in paypal Singapore. from my friend's experience, waiting for email reply took up to 4 days; if they want to do so..

devotchka, i think you are the victim of same user as well as i remember you doing the job for damweb as well.
bsdpowa2, how did you get your paypal password back(reset the paypal). i'm totally out of control over my account as my password and security questions changed! plz pm me.

Perhaps a KEYLOGGER on your computer. Get off the computer and get on the telephone. File a police report for identity theft.

thanks dude, i manage to talk with them and paypal did the best in helping me. however, the hacker is very good in it as they even changed my security question, and i still can't get my account back even with assistance of the paypal operator and i need to fax my identity verification to them. i'm glad to know that after the hacker failed on their first attempt stealing my paypal money, all the account balance is still in there and i've already ask paypal to block any outgoing payment until i had my identity faxed and i get my account back.

for those sharing the same fate with us, i volunteer my help too..
other than IM'ing devotchka, you can IM me too...

They contacted me promptly and the investigation is ongoing.

At least now they know our accounts were accessed by third parties and are investigating, it is kind of relieving.

If the same happened to you, do not wait, call them on the phone!

I would start looking at the emails and not paypal as i guess that is the way the hacker got in.
If having access to email then he can get the password for paypal and digitalpoint without any problems.
