LOTS of Impressions, NO Clicks, NO Conversions

    Hey y'all,

Please have pity on a newbie, both to AdWords and to DP Forum. I have a question that I hope somebody out there can answer.

I jumped in and started my first direct link campaign in AdWords. I got ALOT of impressions (approx. 43,000 in 24 hrs.) but only 20 clicks, and NO conversion to sales. I'm guessing that the large number of impressions is due to my keyboards being to broad? But I'm not figuring out the clicks and conversions.

Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong, and what changes I should make? Also, how do you tell what keywords people are searching for to bring up the ad that is getting clicked on?

Is this 43,000 impressions in Search ? or Content?

If It's search then yes your keywords are probably too broad / irrelevant.

If it's content then you are actually doing ok.

    Unfortunately, it is for search.

Can someone tell me how I would go about weeding out the "bad keywords"?

Include your keywords in your ad text (especially the title) to show users that your ad relates to their search.

No need to give keywords manually, Please use keyword tool in adwords and select from the available list.

If you put rate in ads, clicks will be less.

As you r saying 43k impressions in search, You r paying less for a click. So the rank will be low. Your ads will be listed in search in higher place. So increase your CPC.

I don't know what keywords you're using and I haven't seen your site.

But its pretty much obvious don't you think?

Traffic is not targeted..... just use your head

include the keywords in the advertisement block content, this way that words will be shown bold.

    some possible ideas to try:
keywords too broad - be more specific with your keywords and phrases and add negative keywords
ad copy - experiment with 2 or more ads. i do not recommend putting dynamic keywords in the ad title until you are more comfortable with your keyword list (e.g., if you have too broad keywords, they will show up in your ad title and then you will be getting unwanted clicks)
conversions - check your landing page and make sure that it is optimized/easy to convert

With that many impressions on the search network, I would try using more phrase and exact match terms, and maybe even some negative keywords. Your ad is obviously showing up on tons of irrelevant searches, thus the low CTR, since people just aren't really looking for what your are offering.

Also, check to see what regions these clicks are coming from. Depending on some of the keywords you are using, your ad might be triggered by international searches. Your campaign might be set to display ads to areas that you really arent interested in. Narrowing these things down should definitely improve CTR and conversions.

Take a look at Google's Keyword Tool. Just search "Keyword tool" it should be the first one to come up. Here you can type in your keywords to see what people are searching. Also take a look at keywordspy.com. It will show you what your competitors are using.

Double Digit CTR is a great resource if you looking for a great deal of information. Its $39.99 but it has helped me with my keywords.

    Good Luck

The keywords are the most important aspect here
which play a very prominent role here
please check if they are also included in your ad groups and please remove all the long phrased keywords

    Hey dude,

It sounds like you're using most single phrase keywords in your campaign. This is the reason you get huge amount of impressions that will not transfer into clicks.
Try to use long-tail keywords in your ad campaign.
Use keywords in your ad Title and Description.

    Cheers,
    Kranthi.

The thing that turns people off on Adwords is that they think they can jump in and turn the world on.

Take your time, keep your budget small and test allot.

People spend money for pain or pleasure figure out where your product supplies the solution or the reward and write adds that target the solution or the reward and the conversions will start to happen.

I think include your keywords in your ad text to show users that your ad relates to their search.
