Hey everyone, So, I have been given the task of explainin what exactly Search engine Optimization and link building is to various MD's in our group of companies. Now they want this explained in writing and i am guessing as simpe as possible. Problem is if i explain it and make it seem too simple then they will think do we really need this guy (even thoguh since our team have optimised various sites traffic and sales have increased) and if i explain it using google algorythms and page rank and blah d blah then they will not fully grasp what i do. So has any one got any sites that explain this in simple terms?? This would be a GREAT help!!
Not sure whether this is exactly what you're looking for, but you may take a look at this (all except the last chapter may be quite helpful) http://www.link-assistant.com/seo-guide.html Hope this helps, Linky
You posted 2X. Here is more info from the other thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=609430#post609430
SEO isn't that hard, but then again neither is anything that you are good at. However, being a good seo takes a lot of effort, you have to keep up with changing algo's what is and is not black hat. You have to know HTML PHP ASP, Java, RSS and CSS at least precursory knowledge. Another big part is having contacts, people you can get links from and people who will allow you to put linked content on their site. Also being an SEO you often have other sites which you can put up one-ways etc.. I tell my clients that SEO concepts are not difficult to understand, its the long term effective implementation that is difficult. Sure I could take a site, do a little keyword research beef up the title tags and header and sprinkle keywords throughout and they will rank for some keywords. This is not real marketing and it wont be effective for the long term. I had one client pull that garbage on me, he said why am I paying you when I could tell my current marketing person to do the same things. I said well you can but the results wont be as effective because she doesn't have five years of experience and contacts in SEO. Well he decided to ask her to do it. That was fine, but she ended up delivering half the content with java script which engines cant read. Also, it may sound easy to you, but for someone who doesn't know an h1 tag from a recipricol link, its all greek. The beauty in being a specialist in a field is that you can explain it in laymans terms. If I hire a contractor to replace my roof, and he cant explain what he is going to do so I can understand it, I don't want him. IF I have a doctor who can't tell me in terms I can understand why my back hurts. Then I just have to "hope" he knows what he is doing. Sorry for my lengthy response, but I wanted you to understand that if you can make it sound easy, it even further shows your expertise.
Yes this can be difficult for some to understand, especially when talking to clients that really have no idea about Search Engines. I tend to tell people that it is as simple as monitoring the search engines for what they would like to see and providing them with it. Obviously it is not quite that simple, well actually if you break it right down, it is Brad
thanks, I appreciate the posts and the help, if any one else would like to share feel free. What i might do is write out my thoughts and then share it again to see whether peopel think it is adequate.
