I want to ask members of this forum about what type of keyword tools do they use for their keyword research. 1. http://www.nichebot.com/ 2. http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/ 3. http://wordtracker.com/ 4. http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/ 5. https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal Which ones do you use for the BEST keyword research? And another question: What do you look for when you see the results? The number of searched? the more is better? What about KEI? or WHat about competition? Give us some of your secrets!
I've used them all at one time or another. Always a good idea to use a variety of sources when doing your research. You missed out my current favourite, Keyword Discovery. It's too simplistic to claim that one is the "best" since they each have different strengths and weaknesses. It's a case of horses for courses. The metrics I look at are relative keyword popularity (ignore the absolute numbers, they're not accurate and nobody knows how inaccurate they are) competition (ignore the total number of results, and measure the number of sites/pages that appear under inanchor and intitle queries on Google - that's what you're really competing against) and of course, don't forget the one criteria that's more important than both popularity and competition - RELEVANCY. If a keyword phrase isn't relevant to your site, to your business, to your target audience, then you're wasting your efforts.
TangoUK makes good points... it's not all about the numbers you'll get from those tools. You've got to follow your instinct sometimes and do some digging before you can get the gems. BTW: I use WordTracker and I think it's absolutly fantastic. I've been wanting to try Keyword Discovery but haven't given it a go yet, maybe in a couple of months. PS: WordTracker's traffic estimates are pretty good. I've had #1,2 positions in the big 3 search engines and my traffic was always a little less than their estimated max (per engine)... so it seems reasonable. It's a good estimate anyway. Pete.
What I subscribe to is that I follow the same principles that Tango listed. (nice post). I use combinations of ALL of the above tools. The trump card with ALL of them is relevancy. Target-test using PPC-find the most relevant--Target with SEO--A/B Test for conversion once you know you have relevant traffic. Best; Eric
I use the digitalpoint keyword suggestion tool most of the time. I also use the built in Keyword tool in IBP.
I'm sold on Market Samurai--love its interface and its training videos. I also really appreciate that it is a one-time cost. As much as I like Wordtracker, it is a pretty high monthly subscription fee.
Sorry but this thread http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=16113 gets the award for raising threads from the dead You are darn close though lol... I grew up in Richmond... welcome to DP Nigel
Thanks, Nigel! I was just browsing around, and this thread caught my eye. Figured I'd do my best to be helpful in an area I actually know a little something about. I'm in Northern VA...about 50 miles from DC
Use the keyword discovery by treillan. It also helps. By the way you can use different keyword tools to know your keyword searches. Compare them and use the most appropraite kw tools.
