Optimal SEO connecting Blog to a domain

I have a high ranking domain and new blog. The Blog will additional content to the main site.

The blog software is being hosted on a separate server. What is the best strategy for getting maximum SEO punch for both the main site and the blog.

As I see it I have at least a couple of options. Set up a page called domain.com/blog.htm and install a redirect. or have a simple hyperlink on domain.com/blog.htm which links to the blog IP address.

What other options should I be looking at?

 

Have you considered having the blog within your domain?

I am fairly certain you just set a record for necro'ing the oldest thread in the history of DP. The last one I caught today was from 2007. However, you have successfully Frankensteined a thread from 2005 lol... It's ALIVE lol....
