Is it worth $299?

I have a proxy making maybe $40-$50 a month right now in adsense. It does vary from month to month, and I recently went down for a bit while finding a better host. Anyway, is it worth the traffic potential to get listed in the Yahoo directory for $299?

I am listed in dmoz, is there any other sites to get listed in to drive traffic that are not impossible to get into?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

But you could have just said "No."

And it seems the DMOZ listing is the best free DIR to be in.

So, I guess I'm doing well.....

dude, how is the traffic now? May be you could try to increase your CTR by changing the location of the ads etc. It's not very worth to have list in Yahoo when our sites are not trying to sell anything. In other words, if your site is trying to sell stuff, may be it's worth to give a shot of 299$ :)

don't spend a penny on proxy web sites.

    1 -domain lifetime = max 3 months

domains get blocked by schools and countries so its use less to have a blocked proxyweb site which is listed in yahooo!

That's not really gratitude is it?

By posting links to 5 other threads Big Rob has given you lots of opinions which cover a few different points - surely more informative than "No" (which sounds a bit cheeky for someone with 9 posts...)

Edit: I've visted that place in your avatar a couple of times Rob!

You're right. Apologies Rob - thanks for the links to the threads. The consensus seems to be that Yahoo is not worth it.

I took it as "Use the search function, you idiot" which I probably should have anyway.

As far as a 3 month limit on a 1 domain proxy - that seems a bit short. My url is still generating lots of traffic after 8-9 months.

What's the best way to avoid being blocked? Maybe get several domains and point to the IP address? Do the schools/businesses block by URL or by IP?
Also, some home users might use the site for privacy reasons, so the site would still get that kind of traffic.

I have come across this question in several forums over the years... I personally think its worth it, the only part of the Yahoo directory stuff I do not like is the fact that if your site is not accepted, you will not get your money back

If you have the money go ahead, and do it. Which I think it can have some effect, or they wouldn't be charing 299, or they just know they can get away with it cause they get so much traffic, and they figure ohh well they want it listed they get it listed, but I would try other seo techniques before you go doing this.

Check out my directories in my sig, i will be updating the site real soon with a better design, and more directories. Submit to more directories, and keep doing that, and article submission, post good topics on dp, and use good sig on all forums.

Put a blog on the outside of your website if possible, cuase this will build your content up, and more pages indexed by google, there is several factors that will help you, and you can do it quick.

    thanks man

check my sig out for more directories

Personally, if I had the $299 to spend on advertising my proxy I would buy a dozen listings on proxy.org and advertise in some more targetted proxy directories. You could go for the $250 top banner spot per month but that seems a bit wasted if you dont have the server capacity and you arent selling anything.

No. It's not. I spent $299 to get in and I almost get no traffic from the Yahoo Directory.

Never paid anything to get your traffic. I think the best way to get more visitors is to build the best site with useful content on it..

I think that $300 could be better utilized on other things. It seems like a LOT of money for 1 link. And remember it's an ANNUAL fee.

Your $299 would be better spent somewhere else (i.e. adwords). I paid the $299 fee and only got a few hits from Yahoo! Its supposed to be a re-occuring annual fee, but i only paid once and my listing has been up there for many years...

I have. I checked them all and haven't seen anything from Yahoo!. I paid for the first year and canceled before it was to be billed for the next.

When you are into serious business, You must be present whereever your competitor is present.,
Other than that, a charge of 250+ dollars per year eliminates spammers from buying a link there., which gives the directory more Trust
