Is the Yahoo Directory worth the 299???

I have been noticing since last couple of yahoo updates that directory entries have been making their way to top 10 including many in number 1 for the keywords I monitor.

Does it help your rankings to get a directory entry? I don't like the fact that they only show the directory title and description. But if I can push my site from 25 to top 10 it maybe worth it.

IT will not push your site from 25 to 10. :)

But it will certainly help you more than a link in any other web directory, as far as SEO goes.

Plus it will bring you more traffic, than a link in any other directory.

Plus ... YOu can pride yourself, as being a respected website, and being present in yahoo dir :)

Yahoo directory is a good thing. I did literally nothing to promote my website in Yahoo search engine. However, it is listed #2 for the most competitive keyword on the market. People pay $10 for a click in CPC Overture. I just put my website into the directory. So, the bias exists.

Does Statcounter show SE spiders? I remember that being an issue although they may have changed that now.

I think it makes sense - for a business that makes decent money - if only for the fact that you control your site title and description text that shows up in the serps. It helps present a good image. For most sites though, I'd say it is not worth it. Very rarely will you get a decent top level category, and even then, you'd have to do a sponsored listing to be at the top. Does it help in Yahoo SERPS? I don't know. I think all things being equal, it will show a directory site higher, but I don't think the overall boost is enough to put a non-existant site into the top 10.

No, that is it's only weakness. www.awstats.com will provide that facility, but it's a bit of a job (nicely cleaned up) to download

As far as google results I think $300 spread over a few key directories would pay off a whole lot more.
