Hi I serched for a domain and got the following info Updated Date: 28-aug-2005 Creation Date: 22-jul-1999 Expiration Date: 22-jul-2005 I guess (am hoping that the person has lost interest in this domain). If this is the case, how long will it take for the domain to be available to purchase, is there a long grace period? Cheers
If I seriously wanted one, I would pay to use one of those services that snatches them for you. One of my clients lost her firstnamelastname.com. Now there are not going to be many people that can use that domain. I saw it sit there for sale for a year and was going to personally try to grab it. Owner let it nearly get through redemption period before he renewed. I realized only too late he probably had stats regarding how many times page was accessed so knew someone was watching domain. Yes, I second Smyrl, if you really like it, try backordering it. In fact, even if it has no backlinks, no traffic, depending also on the extension and the domain itself, there are companies and people that buy them anyway. Instead it isn't very common for domains to be renewed while expired and on hold by the current owner. You wouldn't be safe with a backorder either, you would just increase your chances. Of course occasionally some doms are overlooked and you can get them after deletion with the usual procedure. It depends on how important it is for you. Oh, and BO services differ a lot as far as chances of success are concerned, and charges.
I would also advise backordering as the way to go. The domain name stays in the redemption period for about 2-3 months (I'm not certain if there is an actual fixed number of days), then goes into "Pending Delete", which lasts a few days - after this it is available for registration.
The following is the basic idea of how a one-year registered domain become available to the public :- | 1 Year Registration > Expired > 40 Days Registrar Hold Period > 30 Days Redemption Period > 7 Days Pending Delete Period > Available | Hope this helps.
Mcfox posted an interesting response to my query regarding back ordering. This sounds like a better way than backordering. Shannon
Thanks for all the advice The site is not that important to me but it would be nice. The domain in question is not even parked, so guess that there may be a chance to get it. Whilst we are on the subject of expirary, do people who buy loads of domain names purposly not renew for 70 days to get better value for money?
one illustration for com/net/org life. http://www.pool.com/help/faq.aspx?lifecyle=1 by my knowledge .info/.biz deletion is faster .... only few days after expiration. For better value if expired...i dont think so , because if there is no interest for domain holder must pay much more for renewal ....
