Hi everyone, and sorry for posting the same topic that has been posted so many times.

I want to start my own forum, I used forumation[.]com before so I have some forum experience.

I want it to be something like digitalpoint forum, and I heard that justhost[.]com offers a pretty good forum.
I am willing to spend no more than $30 initially.

What would you guys advice. Should buy a vBulliten or is there a web host that offers a good forum if you pay or should I just use phBB

    thanks

I think that you should go with a host from here http://freewebspace.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=32

Dont use phpbb... alot of people who start think phpbb is great but all it really is, is like having a giant bullseye on your site for hackers. I don't recommend phpbb, most people here don't. I would suggest that you try smf or mybb, mybb is my personal favorite because I find it so easy to edit templates, much easier than smf or phpbb.:D

If you don't want to pay for Vbulletin, your best choice for a free forum software is SMF. SMF has a really supportive community. People help each other. The software also has a strong resistance against spamming.

NO, even in another thread that you posted people told you to stay away from phpbb, but if you don't want to do that then have fun when your forum becomes hacked

Of the free scripts, MyBB is my recommendation. It's probably the one most comparable to vBulletin.

Give them a try and choose the one that suits your needs and wants the best. Everybody has different tastes, so taking everybody else's advice won't help much. ;)

I would suggest you to try forummotion, I am trying to make a new forum in it just for the purpose of experimentations and I have recently added many categories which I think are missing in DP. :p

It depends on your budget. If you have good budget I suggest start with vBulletin directly and for free software, you can go for SMF, PHPbb, MyBB etc.

Also, if you go for forummotion then make sure they provide you the backup of your web site database or else you will need to start again from scratch.
