I need SEO tips for YAHOO

With every passing day, spam in Google increases, more and more legit sites keep suffering with low rankings while the spam sites rank high. I have a thread running on the Google forum here on DP that has all the details. I have learned my lesson that one should not keep all his/her eggs in just one basket.

I have mostly ignored Yahoo all this time but like I said, I do not want to rely on only one search engine any more. A wise choice that I should have made a long time ago. One of the major reasons of ignoring Yahoo besides traffic was that I just could not figure out how to rank well in Yahoo. The sites that I mostly see ranking in top 10 are 10 years old websites so basically, age it seems is an extremely important factor but some say that on-page SEO also matters a lot and some say sitewide links gather a lot of Yahoo love.

I have done all of that already. I have got sitewide links on many websites, I write good keyword rich but not over-optimized articles that used to rank fairly well on Google but I have not really ever gotten any attention from Yahoo. I know the basic steps of SEO and all so I think I have covered a lot of things but there must be something that I am missing here, hence this post.

I am starting a new website that I want to optimize in a way that not only it ranks in Google but it should also rank well in Yahoo, therefore, I turn to you, the Yahoo SEO experts. Please provide your valueable suggestions, tips and opinions. Help me as I am getting sick and tired with the ever growing number of spam in Google. I really want to do well in Yahoo now and get some results, the problem is, I am not sure where and how to start.

Also keyword wieghts on domain and title really helps to rank in Yahoo. I ranked 2nd place for yahoo and receives thousands of visitors. This shows that Yahoo search is till relevant.

I'm also curious too. I kind of know that Yahoo seems to have different ranking algo from Google, but I'm not sure if they give more weight on sponsors listing or not. Like they don't give you good rank coz they want you to buy ad bids with them. Is that also possible?

I agree. I have been seeing many irrelevant, non active, spam sites on google first pages. They do not have any traffic, are very slow, but listed in dmoz.

Lately, yahoo has been putting more effort and money in making their search engine comparable or better than google search engine. I think optimization techniques must be same with any search engine with minor differences. Keep doing what you do, and you might as well show up on yahoo.

Keywords in page title, description and in H1 tag. Helps if the html file name has keywords in it. All the same stuff really.

well looking at this page and others, it seems people don't really know or no one is telling.
I see people guaranteeing you in top 10 on google and they get you there, but no one is selling top 10 in yahoo.
its obviously NOT the same thing as google. I have 10+ keywords I rank anywhere from 1-19 in google and no where to be found on yahoo ( i stop looking after page 5 or 6).
Maybe yahoo does have a better algo? cause there it is pretty clear how to rank well in google and people do it including spam sites, but not much spam in yahoo.
I would LOVE to see more Yahoo tips. I may even look to pay for top 10 SEO in yahoo as google isn't working out as much as it used to

One of my websites rank very high on Yahoo and I haven't done a single thing to increase my ranking in Yahoo. The same website ranks very poorly on Google. I have no clue what I did to make the site rank so high on Yahoo.

In my opinion, Yahoo SEO is more easier than google to get high rank.
Yahoo also provide great suggestion tools with niche keywords that difference from google.
This yahoo tool can help u to get some idea of keywords that u should have on your page SEO & content.

However the way for doing SEO is same as google. While google ignore the meta keywords but yahoo won't.

I can get 1st page rank on yahoo that v fast but for google I need to spend some time.

JUst select your 1-3 targeted keywords for each pages that from determine the one that get high search volume and low competitors.

Then select your strategy on Mass, niche or mix mass & niche keywords to target at the 1st phase of SEO.

The most important SEO thing is the MetaTitle tag & Meta description.
All 4 things should be relevant are Meta Title, Meta keywords, Meta description and content. eg.

Meta Title Tag = Targeted keyword1 - blah blah Targeted keyword2 blah blah Targeted keyword3 (should be 60 characters (google) to 80 characters (yahoo)

Mata keywords= Targeted keyword1, Targeted keyword2, Targeted keyword3, other keywords that are in the content, ... (250 characters)

    Description=Targeted keyword1 - blah blah Targeted keyword2 blah ... Targeted keyword3 blah .... (250 characters that related to content)

    Content =

    <h1>Targeted keyword1</h1>
    blah blah
    <h2>Targeted keyword2</h2>
    blah blah Targeted keyword2
    <h3>Targeted keyword3</h3>
    blah blah Targeted keyword3

Note: be careful about how many same keywords on your page; just 3-4 times it's ok if more maybe your page will be remove from google ranking. (My pages've never been remove from yahoo)

Good luck!! For more info pls have a look How to improve your keyword ranking? or Search Engine SEO

If you have a blog , you can start your post description with a text some what similar to the post heading and end with the same. Internal linking between your posts helps in Yahoo rankings . Yahoo also considers meta tag and age of site .

I'm curious about this, too. I manage to earn around 300 visitors each day to my tech blog from google, but it is far less from yahoo. A few of my post rank in the first page of Yahoo, but still i don't know what factors that takes part the most in those posts so they can get into that good rank in Yahoo.
