I hate my Registrar

Register.com is incompetent. Run as fast as you can from them. MORONS as far as how to do things that actually work. So they hold you hostage...

I want to transfer my registration to a real company, and when you do a 'whois" against my domain it does not show the contact info to verify I own it. The morons at REGISTER.COM answered with the email below.

    Run, don't look back...

    Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for contacting Rconnection.com Support.

This is a global issue affecting all of our domain names. It is something we have been working on resolving for quite some time. The issue is intermittant, so trying multiple times may yeild results. The one was to guarantee 100% success is to check the whois database directly from our website www.poweryourname.com. On the left side under "Domain names" click on "Whois". Names will show up with 100% success when checked from this database. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions or require additional assistance.

    Sincerely,

    Domain Support

When I try and transfer registration to another company, they say this:

Domain [bunkerhillmine.com] is ready for transfer, but we are unable to obtain information from the whois server. If the administrative contact information looks clear to you, then contact customer support immediately to investigate the problem, otherwise contact the Current Registrar to have the problem repaired.

Running whois against this domain does not return any of the administrative contact info. Would you fix that?

Yeah there are much better registers around these days. I remember having a lot of problems trying to transfer out of them years ago when I had a name there.. that was when they were one of a couple of the only registers you could use.

I recommend tranfering all of your domains to Namecheap. I have used several registars and they have been the best as far as fixing problems and taking care of the customer. The manage domains is easy to use and things are changed quickly. I have all my domains with them for almost two years and I never had a problem taht was not fixed quickly.

I have tried others. Talked to one today after the provisioning failed. They say register dot com has to fix something. They can't get what they need.

Are you running away from them yet? Check who your registrar really is. If it is register dot com, start emailing them (like once an hour) as you why their whois mechanism is so broke and they hold domains hostage.

I had four domains with them (still have 2, which I will let expire).
Trying to transfer out from there is like pulling teeth!
Also had problems trying to sell, since I couldn't get myself confirmed as
the rightful owner in WHOIS records.
Tried and tried to resolve that issue...but at best, the correct information
    showed intermittently..,

These were my first four at Register.com, and my last !

I don't suggest GoDaddy even to an enemy (check www.nodaddy.com)
I like Moniker for high value names, NameCheap for average but quality services and Name.com for cheap and realiable domain purchases

Customers PAY them to take care of that stuff. If they can't take care of simple things that have very detailed specs for how to do it right, they should go away...I think they can do it right, and don't to benefit themselves....

BTW, I work for a bigtime dot com company....I manage folks who do this daily...the technology and resources to this right are menial.....really. Simple "can you speak the language" type detail.

These people should burn up and go away, or at least have other professionals looking into their business practices in a micro way. . I send an email EVERY DAY somewhere that has the name register dot com it it. At some point, they will feel a burn somewhere and wonder why...

    I am very patient.
