How to use del.icio.us for link development?

I did a baclink check using Mong's backlink checker http://www.backlinkwatch.com/

I noticed I had a backlink for one of my sites from del.icio.us.

I remember signing up and putting a site on there once but getting really frustrated because I didn't know how to use the site at all.

Any insight on how to properly use this tool or any other sites like it would be killer.

Well, it's pretty straight forward - you add your website to del.icio.us, with some notes and some tags. Search engines do spider these links, though how much weight they given them is unknown. It can help to get your websites indexed for the first time. Links from del.icio.us are sometimes recycled by other websites (e.g. tagcentral.net), so you can get extra backlinks.

You can ask other people to add your website to their bookmarks, to increase the number of links. If you can get a significant number of links, then you might see some valuable traffic from del.icio.us itself - lots if you get on the front page.

I just can't tell how it works at all. I just put my bookmarks in and hope somone finds it?

 

You can asked others with account on del.icio.us to add your site on their bookmarks and you'll also do it for them...make a deal that both sides will benefit...asked those with relevance to your site....search for the tags that you need....

 

Is there a way to add multiple word tags in del.icio.us? I don't really like the space seperated tagging system.

 

We should start a del.icio.us thread like we did for StumbleUpon and Squiddoo... Both of those have been successful here on DP.
