After reading the thread Bulk Bookmarks. Will Social Bookmarking Really Work For Link Building?, I came up with the following strategy. Basically, it's a reciprocal linking within del.icio.us, and here's how it works. Have a look my exported bookmarks, and pick one to save to your own del.icio.us account. Make sure you add the tags "from" and "cryogenius", as this allows me to track my own links. It might be best to pick one that a) is similar to your own bookmarks, and b) hasn't been saved by many people. Pick one of your own bookmarks that you really want sharing, and add the tag "for:cryogenius". This should preferably be a website which you are actively promoting, and is saved less than 10 people. (This tag can be removed later). I will see your selected bookmark in my inbox, and I'll save it to my account once I have verified the reciprocal link. I will add the tags "from" and "yourname". You can see all the bookmarks I've accepted here: del.icio.us/cryogenius/from If you wish to join this experiment in a similar way, then add the tag "export" to all the bookmarks you want to share. Then, post to this thread and give the URL of your exported bookmarks (del.icio.us/username/export). Follow the guidelines above when people send you bookmarks, which you will find in del.icio.us/for/username. If you know of any other social bookmarking site which can be used in this way, then please post the details. Clearly it will be required to support something similar to the "for:username" tag (e.g. Yahoo! MyWeb). Cryo.
No one interested? I hoped that this strategy would be relatively simple for anyone to follow... Edit: I've setup something similar on BlogMarks.net.
Thank you jamesplato, I have returned the favour. You almost got it right, so I will explain for the benefit of everyone - consider this a working example: You saved one link from my exported bookmarks into your own. However, you should have tagged it with "from cryogenius" instead of "for:cryogenius". You'll see how this works later. You then tagged one of your own links with "export". You could have used "for:cryogenius" instead, which would have then appeared in my inbox. Tagging it with "export" instead is okay, however, as this allows other people to swap links with you. It is important to publish your export url here though. In exchange, I have saved the link from your exported bookmarks into my account, and tagged it "from fastfoodguy". Why? Because I can easily see all the links I've imported from people, as well as specifically from fastfoodguy. More importantly, you can easily check my account for all of the links that you sent me. This last point is really useful, as there is a very long thread in the link exchange forum, which seems to be struggling because no one has been able to keep track of each link exchange. I hope that this method will fix that issue, while still being easy to use. Does this make any more sense now? Cryo.
Hey Cryo Makes sense, I just transposed the two . it should be fixed now I saw that only link thread and you're right it was confusing. Hopefully this works out
