I have recently updated my webmaster forum to mybb, and I need to get some users and posts, whats a good way to get my forum out there? Any places where I can advertise for free? For example a forum, but must be allowed to advertise, I dont want to break rules by posting my site.

    BTW the forum is: http://www.webmasterspit.com

    Thanks

Edit: btw, free ways only. ;)

I think you should spend some money on it in order to get it grow faster....

1.) Most of webmaster forum have "Website Review" Forum, you can post your website there....

2.) Submit your webmaster forum to directories..

3.) Check my sig if you want to spend money on your forums :)

I think you are going to need some kind of angle. you are up against some big players, like DP itself and WMW. Why would people come to your forum?

I am not saying this to get you down, but I think that defining your USP (unique selling point) will then tell you what kind of promotion you need to do, both in terms of who to target and how to do it.

$$$: Consider using AdWords and paid forum posters. Plenty of people here offering that service.

Free: it's just hard slog because it's very much a me-too forum. Sorry, but I'd have to question your motivation for starting it. There's not exactly a gap in the market is there. Can you find a niche?

The forum itself looks nice but you need to be able to hook members into returning: see http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=18679

also just post on other web forums and place your forum in your sig, you'll get a bit of traffic just from that. Post useful information and people will want to read your forum to read more!

Hmm.. why do so many people feel the urge to start a yet another webmaster forum? Because they're webmasters and like to talk only about webmastering? Oh well, I don't want to downplay anyone here. There can be any number of competitors outthere, but I do believe a "yet another webmaster site" can offer something unique and special to itself to attract people. That's in the end all you need I suppose.

Your site looks pretty, btw. :)

    Thanks

There are many many and way to many webmaster forums out there. It will be hard to succeed. The only thing i have to say is you have to offer something that other webmaster forums don't. For example DP has more visitors to it then any other webmaster forum i've been to, its the most active so i like it here. You obviously don't have that so you maybe can add an article page, and start sending out newsletters and have people send articles to your site or just pick them out from article directories. not just a newsletter though have webmaster news on your home page rather then a forum. Have a few webmaster tools that we can use that's better then the rest out there. you have to offer something better, or something that every other webmaster forum doesn't have to get people to it. If its just any other ordinary webmaster forum no one will join.

and ofcourse after your done with all that just get as many links as you can and post on forums like this with ur sig link, and write many articles, at least one per day. and that should get u going.

i feel the urge because I always wanted a successful webmaster forum (either domains, programming, or designing) :p And because its what im interested in.

    :)

    Thanks everyone

And yes when i was picking a name I actually added webmaster and spit together, then i found that webmasters pit sounded more like a forum, or where a group of people hang out ;) webmaster pit isnt available :(
