There are a few of us here who are forum junkies - you know who you are. Well, forum owners, you can exploit our addictions! I've seen plenty of threads here about how can I get people to my forum, how can I drive traffic. I don't have a direct answer but one of the key things is getting content, and once someone has posted getting replies. This is where the junkies come in. When I sign onto a new forum (I've picked up yourfeeds and nddb today) I'll make a few posts (I like to have 10 but that's not always appropriate) and then I'll see if there are any sections of the forum which genuinely interest me. If there are then I'll subscribe to that part of the forum. And here is where my addiction gets fed. I can't return to every forum I've signed up to every day. But the smart forums (notably vBulletin) will send me a daily digest of all the new and updated threads in that part of the forum. I can scan them and visit or delete as I wish. What does this mean for you It means that the junkies will return more often than if they had to remember and traffic will breed traffic. So, if your forum doesn't support subscription find a hack and make it! Sarah
Sometimes the Google adsense banners really scare me. Its like Google REALLY knows it visitors. I AM addictive to Heroin and would like Heroin Detox in Malaga but I worry that the hospital there isnt state of art
The top Adsense banners on this page show me: Heroin & Methodone detox - Heroin Detox in Malaga. Probably because the word addiction was frequently found on the page.
recently been to adminezone forums. they got this launch team concept pretty well chalked out. combine this with sarahk technique and u got a heady mix there to get those nos on your boards. i would love to try out both on my boards.
Content is not king if there is not traffic to read it. :/ What a crappy cliche'. If you start any website and concentrate internally expecting external results, then you are kidding yourself. I don't care if you have a million posts, if there is no means for folks to find it, your content is nothing. Posts do not necessarilly count as content IMO. Just because someone talked about your topic does not mean the conversation will be useful to someone else. Usefulness of your site is only guaranteed by static information providing pages that place you as an authority in your topic.
Just wondering--so you're saying the subscriptions feature of vB is great? I run vB, but since I am on my forum all day, I don't have subscriptions mailed to me. In fact, I've never even tried it.
It's great for bringing back members who don't visit too often. IMO it's right up there with a well implemented newsletter.
I agree with the model of using a newsletter, but I ask people to comment on my news letter via my forum to compleate the loop!
Just to clarify--we're talking about the subscribe to a thread function, right? I had always assumed that vB had the option of subscribing to an entire forum (my previous forum software had it), but after a little poking around, I couldn't find anything. Am I missing something?
