Be helpful to members, make posts that are useful to others, help others that requires it. Basically the list is endless, the main gist of it is to be friendly and helpful in the forum, the reps will come in automatically.
be yourself and be normal... dont focus on reps and such and they'll roll in automatically.. also help others out. Give them info to their questions (thats how I got reps from 7 people yesterday )

You may gain rep by being helpful and friendly. You may also gain rep by making helpful posts and helping out members that need help. But of course, you never should go around asking for it as that will get you red. Just be yourself, and rep will come.

i think someone -repped OP for this post because I cant find any threads started or OP's reply after the thread stamped time.
I notice that starting a thread asking about rep always results in negative reps for the OP, maybe it is high time for you just to forget about it and be a useful member of DP, the reps will come naturally.
prob a mod or an admin rounding up last bullets on off duty exit off DP and be cool. Don't talk about it (or you'll get more..) And dont worry, at no times you will rebuild your rep up after your contribution here.
The mods or admins won't be bothered, they have more and better things to do, I guess some others with high post counts.
