I know there has to be another way. I'm not paying to be listed. I have a few Yahoo links and I don't know how exactly I got them, but I will find the 'free' way. I know people!!
I find that if you submit a site for free it takes about 3 months and if you submit for $299 you get listed in about a day. Guess it depends on what sort of site it is as to whether you pay the money or not. You'll end up with links from dir.com dir.co.uk dir.de dir.in etc.
So it looks like the best thing to do after registering your site is submit it to Yahoo, do your own SEO, and check back in 3 months. By what I read so far I don't see the need or benefit to paying them $299 for inclusion.
This all depends on your niche. Being top 10 in yahoo for 3 months is more than worth the money in most niches. Also there is a much higher chance of being accepted if you pay; especially if your site is nothing special.
I agree. I paid to have my site included in the Yahoo directory and it took more than 1 month before it got included.
no other alternative of getting listed in yahoo other thenspending$ 299; yahoo diretory users are given benefits in search engine listing on yahoo. cant say abt google
There are only one option - to pay - for almost all business and many other niches as simply there are no free submission available. If you go with free submission, I guess you get approved when your kids turn 12 or 14 or something (assuming they are not yet born)
NOT Really, lol but they take some months to listen that OR simply better to improve your sites.... like dmoz usually love Nonprofit organization sites.. don't put affiliates or any ads until they wont accepted their list ( likewise you should wait 6ix months atleast, thats where we need a pateince until we can update the sites, make a linkbuilding etc etc.. ). once they approved you can play with search engine
don't tell anyone i told u this, but you may pick up a useful trick or two from this thread: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=412490
I guess you have to pay the fee, because I haven't been able to submit any of my sites to Yahoo for free /Andreas
For what it's worth; I remember reading an article that said one of google's founders said there are two directories that hold the most ground with google. Those two are yahoo and botw. This could have been fake, but at the same time it could have been the truth. I know when I paid the 300$ for the directory spot my traffic increased dramatically. I ranked higher in yahoo and google within days. I gained 5x revenue for a period of 6 months. After that my ranks dropped and I was back to normal again. In that time though I was making 11-15k a month so the 300$ was well worth it. I know every site is different though, so it's really up to you.
I got my site in the Yahoo Directory for free a couple of years ago. It took a few months, and my site wasn't really monetized at the time. So, I think it is possible to get listed for free - it just depends on how long you're prepared to wait. When I got listed, I followed the steps laid out in an article I read on the Net about how to get listed for free in the Yahoo Directory. Can't remember now who wrote the article, or where I found it. If you really don't want to pay, why not do a search for similar articles and see if they give you any ideas.
299$ to be listed in a directory is thievery, but if it really boost your business you should maybe do it. for my part i am sure i won't, i prefer to get indexed in yahoo indirectly by yahoo crawlers following links from a third website.
