My site has been penalized in Yahoo, most probably for getting too many links too quickly. I set it up with COOP and probably threw way too much weight on it. I did not do any black hat stuff or anything else which would explain it. It was ranked fairly well before, but after I did this, it dropped out completely, all pages but 1 were removed from Yahoo cache, and if I search for the domain name, the pages which link to me appear first and my one cached page is last. I have removed the coop links poiting to it completely and also removed the coop link placed on that site about 2-3 months ago. Nothing changed. Is this possible to fix at all?
I don't think the co-op links will get you penalized. If anything it has helped one of the sites I am working with. You best bet is to inquire to Yahoo about why your site was de-indexed.
I'm not so sure about that. Look at the result from an experiment CoopGuy did: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=262453&postcount=105
The site was ranked in Top 10 for targeted keywords, and adding coop was *the only thing* I did on it for many weeks. There is no other explanation. I guess I'll either have to change the domain name or try contacting Yahoo about this (I don't they would care much though).
It may also have something to do with how much weight you throw at the site. The site I am talking about has maybe 3000 points of weight on it.
Ya he probably threw more weight at it than you. I think over the 10-20k mark does it. Atleast it did for me, my site was removed from yahoo but i threw a ton of weight at it. oh well, since then i have removed the weight pointed at it but they dont seem to care.
Keep hounding them till they re-include your site. There is a success story of someone getting a banned site re-indexed over at seo-guy.
Yahoo is a mystery. I've had sites top out @ #1, sit for a week or two and then disappear. I've also had sites rise nicely to the first page of the serps and next thing I know, they've been delisted, only to get relisted a month later. Perhaps the new affiliate-blaster filter they've been test driving lately is to blame?
Not really. I don't remember the exact number, but it was probably even less than that. The problem was that the site was relatively new and has small number of links pointing to it. I would assume that there is difference in throwing 3000 weight on a site with 10,000 existing links and on a site with 10 existing links...
You can ask them for to review your site here. http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/ysearch/cgi_rereview
Maybe there is a difference but I brought a site from the low 100's to almost 10,000 links with that 3,000 weight and I have not been punished for it.
In what time span though? And also - what number of links does weight of 3,000 translate into? The weight algorithm in coop has been changed several times in the past, weight of 3,000 today used to be much more or much less depending on how it was calculated. Speaking of that, I'd really like to know answer to my question on http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=28433 to avoid risky situations like this.
Time span was just a few weeks. Durring which time I also did a massive free directory submission push. I basically increased the backlinks(the links are according to Yahoo) by 9,500 during a period of about 3 - 4 weeks.
I guess every case is different. This was failry new site and the numebr of links got increased to over 10,000 within a few weeks (2-3 weeks?) as far as I remember. Maybe you were close to the threshold and maybe my site just barely tripped their filter. Or maybe not, we'll never know. Anyways it's something to learn from.
3000 weight is not a lot of weight. Maybe it hasn't reach the "threshold". My sites that were banned had 20,000+ weight pointing to it.
______________ Does anyone know the best way to contact Yahoo about this problem. I have experienced the same problem for several months. I have been the the TOP position for many search terms for months at a time, but about two months ago, I dropped off the cliff........... Please send the best way to contact Yahoo to see if there is a problem with our site, from their standpoint. Thanks
The only way is if you know somebody who works at Yahoo. They don't care about your site, unless your site is IBM.com or Microsoft.com. I have 8 sites that has been de-SERPed from Yahoo and I've emailed them 5-6 times and they have ignored all my emails. They just replied with their canned mail.
I'm gonna have to disagree with that one. It certainly seems like it with some sites. Not all, but a large number.
