How long does it typically take for a new site to be ranked in the SERPS?

I am just starting out in the biz and I am just now figuring out how to get my sites indexed quickly but now a new challenge has come about with getting my sites ranked within the SERPS.

Can anyone tell me how long it generally takes in a ball park average?

What the longest it's taken one of your sites to be indexed in the past?

    Thanks

There is no specific time limit for your site to get ranked in SERPs.

Most often a couple days, sometimes maybe a week or more.

As with every vague question... the correct answer is that it depends... You may rank within minutes of posting new content... or your page may never rank at all.

There are so many factors that weigh into how a given URL ranks for a given keyword phrase that it is impossible to give a time frame here. Probably the most important determining factors are:

    a) which keyword phrase you're trying to rank for and
    b) how competitive that keyword phrase is

You have to become effective at selecting keyword phrases to target. I'd suggest you go after keyword phrases that get low to moderate search query volume but that have little or no competition. No single page on your site will bring you lots of traffic, but if you have a lot of pages each bringing in a little traffic, it can add up quickly.

Getting some traffic is much better than spending years trying to rank for some competitive phrase that you may never rank for and getting zero traffic IMO.

Posting article on article directories as well as blogs will go a long way in having your site indexed quickly.

    Hi Canonical,
I agree with your statement but I've got the impression you misunderstood his question. He's not asking for a new page but for a brand new still not indexed site.

While you are right, stating for a new page it may happen in minutes, I think this is impossible for a new site.

I published just this morning a new site for a client - main KW "interior design miami" (10.000.000 competition) will report how long it lasts to get in on the index with all my experience applied.

your sites can index by bots quickly but getting top rank for a keyword depends on competition.

It depends on what you are trying to compete for. I've had five sites, one that was on page one of Google with 30 million results the very same day it was indexed. The others took no longer than 3 days after being indexed. Usually a week will do.
