1) Make a good site with good content 2) Submit said site to hundreds of free directories (preferably related to the site) 3) Write good articles related to your sites content and submit them to lots of places 4) Email other websites and exchange links 5) Create good tools on your site to build on the traffic gained from steps 1-4
do the above plus 1. Write a press release and submit it through www.PRWEB.com. Go for the option where you pay $119 dollars and not the free option. With the paying option you are guaranteed to be listed in Google & yahoo news for 28 days, plus your press release will be archived in the PRWEB.com site indefinately. If a major news site picks your press release...the possibilities are enomous in terms of traffic and a high google PR backlink 2. Ever tried blogging? Blogs which are updated daily get traffic that static sites html dream about Tools to help you out faster http://www.pressequalizer.com http://www.articlesubmitterpro.com http://www.wordpress.org - to help you start with blogging
If you are reffering to directories, you are correct. Their value has been decreased over time - however, they do provide some benefit and are easy to do - so you might as well do it.
Also any traffic they generate can be just considered icing on the cake. Even if you got an extra 100 visitors a day from them it would be worth the exposure in the long run.
I doubt if you will get 100 extra visitors from directories. Directories are simply for the purpose of building links so you rank better.
It was an example is all. Saying that any traffic you get from them is better then the traffic you did not get from them. I also agree with you on the ranking portion of it.
Why don't you start by advertising with me? http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=59699 I do agree with the others. Getting a huge amount of traffic to your site is a lot of hard work. Plus, if your content is good and updated regularly, the user sthat visit your site once will come back. Add a Javascript link "Bookmark this site" at the bottom of each page as well, that helps. Over 50% of visitors to www.newzealandphotography.co.nz add the site to their favourites, and I think the link at the bottom of each page on my site helps a fair bit in doing this. Submit to as many directories as you can, starting with DMOZ and Yahoo Directory (although don't expect to be included in a hurry). Exchange links with other sites that have similar themes to yours. Whatever little extra traffic you get from these sites will be targeted as the visitors would be from the market you want to target. Plus, these links help with Search engine rankins as well. Finally, keep visiting DP forums and we'll keep you up to date with what's happening! Regards, dfsweb
Honest to be... I am getting more traffic from my sitepoint.com signature then from Google/MSN & Yahoo ...
