How Do I Transfer?

Discussion in 'Sites' started by jkomp, Dec 14, 2005.

    Hi,

How do I transfer a domain and a site after i have sold it?
The buyer said something about a tag and told me to contact my host - so I did, but my host said since my domain is not registered with them they cannot do anything.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

do a whois on your domain name then that should tell you who the domain name is registered with..

If you own the domain your name should be against the domain name. Call the domain hoster (from the whois above) and get them to transfer it.

    Good luck

The person who purchased the site from you needs to initiate the Domain transfer from their registrar (they may pay a small fee for this).

The current domain owner (you?) will receive an email from the purchasers registrant which you reply to confirming the transfer.

This then sets the transfer in progress and it will show up in their account usually within about 7 days.

It may make sense if you got your domain through your ISP. What domain registration service do you have?

Where did you register your domain, just go their and change the name to their name. Or just give them the user name and pwd to the place where you registered it, and let them do it.

Yes, and from this point the new owner can claim the domain, unlock or have it unlocked through that registrar and transfer it to a new DNS if neccessary and/or have the domain transferred to a new registrar.

That's what I figured. Do does no one know what this tag thing is?

I did not buy the domain through my ISP.

Looks like this tagy thing is a bad joke unless your buyer specifies exactly what he wants and you post it here so that poeple can look into it.

Does your buyer want you to change it to a new DNS? - then just do it - or have the registrar do it for you and if he wants another wagy tagy thing he can do it then by himself.

You always contact his ISP (registrant) and find out exactly what they need from you in order to transfer the domain
