You start with the search button. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=521941 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=452664 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=560178
Search on the web and find a good resources on how to start SEO. Suggested resources site is the wikipedia, seomoz and seobook.
Once you have optimised the website it self (you'll find resources quickly for that), try to get as many links as possible to your website. I always start by searching where the competitors are getting their links from. That usually give some good hints. Good luck!
Take some time and learn about it via all means. Then once you feel you are getting the idea begin and dont do to much too soon.
Start directory submission in good PR sites and article submission also. Social bookmarking is the best way for getting backlinks. But dont do spamming.....................
Begin with the basics. Give your pages good title tags using your keywords without spamming. Use a meta tag generator (free on google search) and place your meta tags in to your pages. Use the H1 tags on keyword heading subject lines. This will get you the basic start of optimization. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
SEO can be tricky and you'll find a lot of crap out there so it will take you some time to differentiate the facts from the fiction. The most importants rules are: ONSITE SEO: Make your site user friendly: your site should be readable by most search engines so use HMTL for coding or script that display HTML. your site should be quick to load... no-one wants to waste time on the net. make sure your readers find the info quick so play with font size and color. navigating through your site should be easy and clear. Customers like to be led! They should "Navigate" your site, not go on a SAFARI search for infos. OFFSITE SEO: Build Links If you have done good ONSITE SEO then people will link to your site and search engines will understand that your site has some valuable info and publish it higher. You can help it by creating backlinks yourself: Look for related forums, directories, myspace and social networkins sites where you can place links pointing towards your site. When building links, try to use different keywords you think your customers would use to find your website. Do not stick to the same words as it would be a waste of time. You won't be penalised for it by the search engines, just wasting valuable time. And last but not least: Content is the KEY to SEO, without content you have nothing! A skinny website is nearly invisible to search engines. Your site should be full of info, valuable info... By doing this you will do SEO automatically by creating backlinks and useful content A last tip for you: if you are serious about it, buy a good domain name which include one of your important keyword. Stay away from Free hosting and Free website builders that don't allow you to edit the URL. Good luck!
