Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this directory? Have you had your site added or rejected and are you are member? Just looking for feedback since I just joined. Thanks!
If memory serves, the site likes top level domain submissions. Subpage submissions are usually rejected. I don't think there is any problem submitting top level domains though. I have a number listed there.
I've been a member for 2 months. I submitted 2 sites - 1 has been put on hold while I make some changes so that no one else reviews it with its problems, and the other was recently added to the directory after quickly getting it's required votes. I've enjoyed editing at Hedir. I also edit in several other directories - DMOZ, JoeAnt, Skaffe, and some others - and each has its own personality and model. I enjoy Hedir's model of multiple editors reviewing the same sites - that keeps 1 editor from having too much influence, for one thing. Also if 1 editor doesn't like something (I generally don't like sites built on the SiteSell model, and I don't usually have much good to say about the ones I've reviewed) those sites still have a good chance at being listed because other editors may not share my opinion. Also, there are some very technical editors available to pick out issues and offer advice on those things, while there are other editors who are very good at picking up on usability and style issues. It's a very good blend of expertise. It did take me a little effort to learn how to do things at Hedir, but they are in the process of improving some documentation to help new members. The directory owner(s) are frequently looking for ways to improve the directory for the users and for the members, and I appreciate their involvement. Some directories have been just built and then ignored - not Hedir. True. As in several other directories, sub pages and subdomains are rarely included. A few are included, but it is the exception. This helps avoid some of the manipulation that goes on by some submitters looking for an edge.
They use rel=nofollow in the links to your site whilst your site is in the submission cue and the people who post on there are very negative!
